School of History : University of East Anglia (UEA) Before 1993 the historians were located in English & American Studies, Social & Economic Studies, and European Studies.

The School of History is one of the largest groups of historians in the country, specialising in political, social and cultural British and European history spanning 1500 years: http://buzz.mw/-OBU_y History was one of the founding disciplines of the University back in 1963, and its first Professor was Robert Ashton, a noted early modern scholar, who retired from English and American Studies in 1988. The three sets of historians came together in 1993 as the Centre for Historical Studies, under another noted early modernist, Professor Colin Davis, who retired from UEA in 2004. Colin was succeeded as Dean by Roy Church, an economic historian, who was, in turn, succeeded by the noted Russianist, Professor Edward Acton, who is now UEA’s Vice-Chancellor. Professor John Charmley succeeded him in 2001 and Professor Cathie Carmichael became the Head of the School of History in 2012. The School is one of the largest groups of historians in the country and covers most areas of British and European history from the Anglo-Saxons until now.
