The Employee of the Month
Let’s talk about decadence. Let’s talk about layers. Let’s talk about the kind of sandwich that not only satisfies but feels like a bit of a guilty indulgence. The “Employee of the Month” from , a creation by the brilliant , is a masterpiece that messes with your mind because—seriously—what *have* you been eating before this?
We start with cold cuts, a trio of prosciutto, fennel salami, and mortadella that melt in your mouth and remind you that some meats deserve their own holiday. Then, crispy fried artichokes add a satisfying crunch, while a truffle and olive tapenade seeps into the crusty AF ciabatta from .loaf, bringing all the umami you could ever need. Fresh peaches (yes, peaches) give a sweetness that cuts through the richness, and sun-dried tomato pesto ties everything together with a tangy punch. Oh, and there’s a bit of salad because balance, right?
Every bite of this sandwich is like a perfectly orchestrated flavour symphony. Honestly, it’s one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had—and you need it in your life, now.

After plenty of experimenting (and a lot of taste testing!), I’ve finally perfected the ultimate cheese toastie. It’s all about that gooey blend of mozzarella, Gruyère, and cheddar, sandwiched between perfectly golden sourdough (this one’s white sourdough from Waitrose; I prefer the amazing loaves from , but had to work with what I had today—and I must say, this photo turned out quite well!). The secret? Homemade salted butter churned from full-fat double cream, and my own secret seasoning blend (shoutout to for the inspo!). I thought I’d wrap it in a bit of greaseproof paper to see how it would look if I actually had my own grilled cheese business. This isn’t just any toastie, it’s pure comfort on a plate.

I made homemade ketchup today. Not only is it banging, I added some to quite possibly the best triple-decker bacon and egg sarnie I’ve ever made.

Indulged in a divine roast at The Reindeer today. The beef was succulent, accompanied by golden roast potatoes, rich red cabbage, a hearty stuffing ball, shared steamed veg, and swede purée. Opted for a silky Malbec that rounded out a truly satisfying meal. Vegan and veggie options abound! Haven’t tried their Sunday roast? Seriously, what have you been doing?! 😌🍷✨

The lovely people over at treated me to this amazing chunk of heaven today. I’ve never had carrot cake like it! So damn moist, with a great crumb, and that lux finish.

A chilly walk around Whittingham Lake had us fleeing for warmth, and what better sanctuary than Crownpoint Tavern? It’s been a while since I’ve popped in, especially after blues. NR three jazzed up the midweek menu.
“Just a quick half,” we thought. But then, Calvin, the ever-charming menu maestro, introduced us to the specials board, and our plans changed. Both of us were instantly mesmerized.
Blossom smartly picked the truffle wild mushroom Mac and cheese. I, on the other hand, was intrigued by the Korean fried chicken. Let me paint you a picture: tender pieces of chicken, enveloped in a light, crispy batter, and paired with a subtly spicy wasabi aioli. Each bite was a delightful contrast of textures and flavors, complemented by the refreshing crunch of Asian slaw and tangy pickles.
Nabbing a bite of the better half’s Mac & Cheese, I found it’s not just tasty, it’s “ponder over the meaning of comfort food” tasty; Creamy, flavorful, but not so rich that you’d need to lie down after a forkful.
Dessert was a shared adventure - one homemade Apple Streusel Brioche Bread Pudding with vanilla custard and ice cream, two spoons. It’s the kind of dessert that brings a nod of appreciation; rich, but not overly sweet, pan-fried to perfection. Yummy noises were so loud that the women on the next table enquired of what we were eating that made us so vocal.
What was meant to be a fleeting visit for a half-pint turned into a surprisingly satisfying supper. If you haven’t been down to Crownpoint since the menu change, it’s well worth a detour.

I had the absolute pleasure of embarking on a culinary adventure today at the renowned Döner Bei Tante Anne's pop-up at the Garnet. The star of the show was undoubtedly the original Döner, a masterpiece crafted with their homemade Seitan, an array of fresh salads including cabbage and tomato-cucumber salad, crisp lettuce, onions, and a generous drizzle of Tzatziki. The whole ensemble was elegantly enveloped in Turkish Pide Bread, though for those craving an alternative, the Naan wrap option was equally tempting at just 9.5.
As I indulged in this flavorful creation, I found myself seated by the window, indulging in a delightful session of people-watching, perfectly complemented by half a beer. The experience was nothing short of a feast for the senses, and what's more, it offered exceptional value for money.
If you haven't had the pleasure of dining at her former restaurant, I wholeheartedly urge you to seek out one of her pop-up events. It's a culinary journey that's not to be missed!

For the second time in as many days, I found myself stepping into the warm ambiance of BunXHeritage. While my gastronomic journey yesterday was so engrossing that I forgot to capture it in pixels (all that remained was an empty plate), today, I was armed with both anticipation and my food-loving mates.
A heartfelt appreciation is due to the attentive team at BunXHeritage. Recognizing my friend’s celiac requirements, they swiftly arranged for gluten-free bread, ensuring she could savor her brisket sandwich without reservations. As for me, I was irresistibly drawn to their finely crafted pork ciabatta, an embodiment of flavor and texture. And speaking of irresistible, a companion of mine couldn’t help but echo my previous day’s choice – the indelible Reuben Dip burger.
No culinary adventure is complete without sides, and our table soon boasted of perfectly triple-cooked fries, kissed with a hint of aromatic rosemary salt. The pièce de résistance, however, was the Bubble & Squeak accompanied by a lush beef dripping mayo – its richness was unparalleled and lingered long after the last bite.
Though I’ve yet to sample their reputed roast, the whispers of its excellence reach my ears. As the sun sets on today, there’s a growing possibility of a third consecutive visit to BunXHeritage. The allure is undeniable.
