"Our death is our wedding with eternity." – Rumi
Today marks the death of the 13th-century Sufi poet Rumi, whose words on love, loss, and transcendence continue to resonate centuries later.
Rumi also inspired the whirling ceremony – a form of active meditation where dervishes spin in worship, combining singing, chanting, and dance to reach an ecstatic spiritual state.
The dance itself is deeply symbolic. Rotating from right to left around their own heart, dervishes shed their personal ego to connect with the divine and embrace all humanity with love. Their tall camel-hair hats represent the tombstone of the ego – a visual reminder of what they're leaving behind as they whirl.

Its really hard to put this on here but my great friend and inspiration, the lovely Lizzie Barnard sadly passed away last night. A great ambassador for the dance. Will always be missed but now at peace ❤
