Kingfisher Class have had an incredible time on their residential visit to Bawdsey Manor! 🌟

Throughout their stay, they’ve taken part in a wide range of exciting outdoor activities, including climbing, orienteering, campfires, and much more. 🧗‍♂️🔥🌲

We are so proud of how brave everyone has been—stepping out of their comfort zones, trying new challenges, and building wonderful new friendships along the way. What a fantastic experience for all involved! 💛

📚✨ Celebrating World Book Day! ✨📚

We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day in school, with the children enjoying a day dedicated to the joy and excitement of reading.

A very special thank you to FORMS, who surprised each class with a fantastic “book parcel” filled with new books to enjoy. These were purchased using the money raised from the reading challenge the children completed over half term – what an amazing achievement!

It was lovely to see the excitement as each class opened their parcel and discovered the new stories waiting to be explored.

A huge well done to all of our children for taking part in the reading challenge and helping to raise funds for such a fantastic cause. What a wonderful way to celebrate the joy of reading! 📖💛

Holly Dog visit!

Kingfishers class finally discovered what was inside the mystery box from the video clip they’ve been using for their writing… and it was a dog! 🐶

Just like the boy in the clip, the children were surprised when Holly suddenly ran into the classroom – cue lots of squeals of delight! The children then explored rich vocabulary linked to how it felt to be surprised, how Holly felt when they gently touched her, and how she behaved.

All of this fantastic language will feed directly into their writing later in the week. We love finding creative ways to enhance learning and make it truly memorable! 💛✍️

Today we had a visit from our local MP Ben Goldborough. He talked to us about his job role and what parliament is like. He then explained how he does his best to help the local community with issues that are important to them. Children had the opportunity to ask some questions to learn more about how he is tackling issues that something to them. He was funny and informative and the children enjoyed listening to him. Thank you Ben! :-)

✨ Computing in Action! ✨
Kingfishers had an exciting first lesson using Micro:bits this week! 🖥️💡 The children learned how to input their own code to control these tiny computers, putting their problem-solving skills to the test. Their first challenge? Programming their Micro:bit to display a scrolling name – and they did a fantastic job! We’re looking forward to seeing what they create next. 🚀👏

What a wonderful way to end the term! 🎄

Our final week has been packed with festive highlights, from Christmas lunch, jumper day and the Santa Dash, to a joyful Nativity and a truly heart-warming Carol Concert.

We are especially excited to welcome a very special visitor this afternoon; the perfect surprise to round off the celebrations. Thank you FORMS - Friends of Rockland St Mary School Events 🎅✨

A huge thank you to our families, friends and wider community for all your support this term. We wish you all a happy, peaceful Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

We had an amazing time at The Hippodrome this week! There was Christmas magic in the air, as we watched lots of incredible acts and enjoyed lots of Christmas humour!

A big thank you to all the parents who joined us on Wednesday to watch the children’s ukulele performance — it was certainly a tight squeeze! The children have worked incredibly hard, which was clear from their wonderfully focused and determined faces. They should be very proud of themselves!

Kingfisher Class had a fantastic day stepping back into Victorian life at Gressenhall Workhouse and Museum. From the moment they arrived, the children were fully immersed, meeting a Victorian teacher, farmer’s wife, washer woman, and workhouse inmate, who guided them through everyday life in the past. They experienced a full range of activities — making drop scones, learning Victorian laundry, exploring the farm, taking part in a strict classroom lesson, and even seeing what life was like in the workhouse. It was a brilliant trip and they were highly praised by all the wonderful staff at the museum.
