Back on the pitch. ⚽️

Our Year 5 and Year 6 football teams were back in action yesterday for their first fixtures of the new academic year, with Year 5 playing at home and Year 6 representing St Martin’s away.

It was wonderful to see plenty of teamwork, determination and enthusiasm on display as they put their skills into practice and enjoyed the opportunity to represent the school.

A great afternoon of football and a positive start to the season.

The grounds are looking their best as preparations continue for the start of the new academic year.

After a quiet summer, we are looking forward to seeing St Martin’s School full of life once again as we welcome the boys back on Monday.

A special thank you to our Grounds Team, whose hard work throughout the summer has ensured the school is ready for the boys’ return.

We wish all our families a wonderful final weekend of the summer break and look forward to welcoming everyone back very soon. 💙

Following Mr Simon Dunn’s retirement after many years as Headmaster of St Martin’s, we sat down with him to hear more about his newly painted portrait by artist Stephen Jacobson.

The portrait is filled with details that hold particular meaning for Mr Dunn and reflect the many memories, passions and traditions that shaped his time at St Martin’s.

In this short film, Mr Dunn takes us through some of those details and shares what it means to have his years at the school captured in this way.

A very special portrait, and a lasting reminder of a remarkable chapter in the history of St Martin’s.

As Mr Simon Dunn prepares to retire after many years of dedicated service as Headmaster, we are delighted to share his newly painted portrait by artist Stephen Jacobson.

Look closely and the portrait tells a story of Mr Dunn's time at St Martin's. The piano reflects his lifelong love of music and playing, while the conductor's baton represents the many years he has spent leading the school choir and inspiring generations of boys through music.

The St Martin's historic crest features in the top right of the portrait, bearing the motto, With All Thy Might. This is a fitting reflection of the dedication and commitment Mr Dunn has shown to the school throughout his time as Headmaster.

Our sincere thanks to Stephen Jacobson for capturing these details so thoughtfully, and to Mr Dunn for the warmth, leadership and dedication he has given to the St Martin's community.

The final weeks of the school year are always some of the most memorable at St Martin's.

From performances and celebrations to educational visits, prize giving and special events, the summer term is packed with opportunities for our boys to learn, grow and shine.

Sports Day is undoubtedly one of the many highlights.

From our youngest boys in Nursery taking part in their very first races, to Pre-Prep and Years 3 to 8 competing with determination and pride for valuable Patrol points, the atmosphere was full of encouragement, excitement and community spirit.

As our Director of Sport, Liv Mari, reflected:

"We had two fantastic Sports Days for all pupils from Nursery to Year 8. The day was filled with smiles, excitement and lots of fun as our youngest boys enthusiastically took part in a number of races and events. Congratulations to everyone who participated and helped make the day such a success!"

While there were plenty of impressive performances on the track and field, what stood out most was the way our boys encouraged one another, celebrated each other's successes and demonstrated resilience in every event.

There's something incredibly special about seeing the world through the eyes of a three-year-old.

Every question. Every discovery. Every new friendship. Every little achievement.

Some lessons simply can't be taught from inside the classroom.

Whether walking through centuries of history, exploring the natural world, stepping onto the training ground of a professional football club or taking part in immersive, hands-on experiences, educational visits help our boys see the world through a different lens.

Throughout the year, every trip is carefully chosen to enrich classroom learning, spark curiosity and create lasting memories.

Towards the end of last term alone, our boys enjoyed visits to:

⏳ Lincolnsfield Children's Centre, where Year 3 stepped back in time through an immersive wartime experience, discovering what life was really like for children during the Second World War.

🦁 London Zoo, where Year 4 explored the incredible diversity of the animal kingdom, discovering more about habitats, conservation and the importance of protecting wildlife through real-world experiences.

🇬🇧 The Tower of London, where Year 4 uncovered the stories of kings, queens, castles and the Crown Jewels, bringing their history learning vividly to life.

⚽ Watford FC, where Year 3 enjoyed a behind-the-scenes experience, discovering the teamwork, dedication and ambition that underpin professional sport.

Every trip is an opportunity to ask questions, build confidence, strengthen friendships and discover that learning doesn't stop when you leave the classroom.

Last term, a group of our boys enjoyed an unforgettable visit to St George's Park, where they experienced first-hand the environment that inspires England's national teams.

From training on world-class pitches to learning alongside expert coaches, they had the opportunity to build confidence, develop teamwork and resilience, and experience what dedication and hard work can achieve.

As the school year came to a close, we marked the end of an extraordinary chapter in the history of St Martin’s as we say farewell to our Headmaster, Mr Simon Dunn, who retires after many years of dedicated service.

Throughout his time at St Martin’s, Mr Dunn has led the school with warmth, integrity and an unwavering belief in every boy. Under his leadership, the school has continued to thrive and succeed, nurturing generations of pupils both academically and personally while remaining true to the values that make St Martin’s so special.

His passion for music has become an enduring part of school life, inspiring countless boys to discover their confidence through performance, from concerts and choirs to the much-loved annual Music Tours.

At our final assembly of the year, the boys gave Mr Dunn a memorable send-off with their own adaptation of his favourite song, Mr. Blue Sky - a fitting tribute to a Headmaster who has brought so much joy, encouragement and inspiration to our community.

As the song says, “Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why...”

For us, the answer is simple: because of the remarkable difference you’ve made to so many lives.

Thank you, Mr Dunn, for your leadership, your kindness and your unwavering dedication to St Martin’s. We wish you and Kath every happiness in your retirement.
