My passion! I could talk to you about this for hours 🤓
It really is phenomenal and most importantly: scientifically proven.
The focus of my dissertation in my Masters was studying the impact of music on the brain and therefore academic achievement. In short, through about 15 case studies of Primary Schools across very diversified socioeconomic backgrounds.. *every* single student who had participated in formal music education was achieving average or above average grades throughout school. Not one anomaly. Students chosen at random. Crazy right?
Think of the brain as a muscle - we can make it bigger! Studies show that musicians have increased gray matter in the brain - literally more neuronal cell bodies. And we can start this process of brain development from the moment they arrive in our worlds ❤️
It might seem that we are just having fun, but we are actually stimulating and developing those little brains so much 😍😍

Ditty Dots: I wanted it to be more than a music class 💕
🧡 I had my first child during the height of the pandemic & we were pretty much in lockdown for the best part of the first year... No baby classes, no new mum friends, minimal socializing (2m apart and just one walk a day else might end up in prison - seems crazy now!)
👯 Of course, all the pandemic babies missed out on things but I think the mums did too a little bit. I know how valuable support is during those early times; I was so incredibly lucky to have my husband and my Mum but some people didn't have that.
🎵 When setting up Ditty Dots, as important as the content of the classes, was the priority of choosing the right venues. I wanted venues that allowed people to socialize before/ after class. I wanted to provide opportunity for friendships and support networks to gradually and naturally build.
⚡ The vibe in class is really relaxed, welcoming, friendly, non-judgemental, but to now see parents and children who didn't know each other before, playing together - well, it might have brought a tear to my eye 🤣 (I was setting up the room, looked out the window, saw this, grabbed my camera and ran!)
The venue in Towcester is on market square - surrounded by great brunch and coffee spots ( , , ). We also have a private garden for use in the warmer months.
The venue in town is on a BIG playing field with a great playground and facilities. There's also a few pubs nearby 🙌
I wanted Ditty Dots to be more than a music class, and this beautiful moment earlier shows that it is becoming that 🧡

I've written my first blog!
I really do believe in the importance of music in a child's development. I love geeking out on the science behind it all; of course I don't expect you to, so I have written a short post to share some of the headlines!
I'll post the link on my story + in my bio for you to take a quick read the next time you have 5 minutes for a cold coffee!
