๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ญ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐จ ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ!
Last week The 17 schools from the Humber Education Trust came together for a celebration of their achievements in reducing their environmental impact.
Each school delivered a short presentation outlining their progress so far, including measurable impacts, environmental savings, and their future plans to further reduce their carbon footprint.
NYES Catering delivered a 1-hour interactive session on food air miles. The session focused on the environmental impact of food transportation. Using two popular dishes, macaroni cheese and spaghetti Bolognese, the children handled raw ingredients and worked in teams to:
โข Identify which ingredients belonged to each dish
โข Estimate and calculate the air miles travelled
โข Analyse which meal had the greater environmental impact
The team also led a discussed around ways reduce environmental impact, such as growing food locally and supporting local farmers. This linked directly to how our service sources ingredients from Yorkshire to minimise food miles and reduce our carbon footprint.
It sounds like a fantastic day, well done to everyone involved!

Yesterday, we headed over to Harrogate for a full area away day, bringing together teams from across our service areas - including Property, Health & Safety, and Cleaning & Catering.
It was a fantastic day filled with insights, inspiration, and connections. Some standout moments included:
โ
Hearing from Yorkshire Air Ambulance, our chosen charity for the year, and learning more about the incredible, life-saving work they do across the county
โ
Celebrating staff development through powerful stories from colleagues sharing their career journeys within the council
โ
And, of course, the ever-popular end-of-day quiz, which is always a highlight!
Events like this are a great opportunity to connect with colleagues we donโt work with day-to-day, share ideas, and gain valuable insight from different teams across our service.
Being part of North Yorkshire Council means we benefit from opportunities like this and itโs something weโre really proud to be part of!
