Edmund Rice College U18s Progress in NI Cup After Penalty Shootout Victory! ⚽️

Edmund Rice College Under-18s showed tremendous character and resilience to secure their place in the next round of the NI Cup, overcoming Lagan College in a dramatic penalty shootout after an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Lagan College made a strong start and established a two-goal lead in the first half. However, Edmund Rice College responded superbly. A moment of midfield brilliance and quick thinking from Seth Parker created an opportunity for Caiden McConnell, who finished smartly to pull a goal back and spark the comeback.

Shortly before the break, Edmund Rice College earned a free kick through the hard work of Lennon Flood. What followed was a piece of creativity from Danann Bell, whose low delivery into the box found Seth Parker, who applied a composed finish to level the match at 2-2 before half-time.

The second half was fiercely contested, with Edmund Rice College producing a battling display. The Lagan College goalkeeper was called into action on several occasions, making a number of excellent saves to keep his side in the game. Danann Bell came agonisingly close to giving ERC the lead, striking the near post with a clever finish.

With the score remaining 2-2 at full-time, the tie was decided by penalties.

Owen O’Reilly proved the hero in goal, producing two outstanding saves during the shootout. Smartly taken penalties from Danann Bell and Seth Parker kept Edmund Rice College in control.

After an incredible shootout that saw nine penalties taken by each side, Nathan Preston stepped forward and smashed his penalty into the top corner to send Edmund Rice College through to the next round.

Man of the Match: Seth Parker 🌟

A superb all-round performance, capped by a goal and a key contribution to ERC’s comeback, earned Seth the Man of the Match award.

📢 Friends of ERC Parent Support Group – New Members Welcome! 📢

We are delighted to invite all parents and guardians to the first Friends of ERC Parent Support Group meeting of the academic year, which will take place on Wednesday 21st October at 6:15pm in Edmund Rice College.

Over the past two academic years, the Friends of ERC Parent Support Group has gone from strength to strength, making a significant contribution to school life.

Through the dedication and support of our parents, the group has helped develop valuable business and community links, secured donations, provided practical support, offered careers advice and assisted with work experience opportunities for our pupils.

One of the group’s greatest strengths is the sense of community and family commitment it brings to our school. We are fortunate to have the continued involvement of many parents whose children have already left Edmund Rice College to pursue further education and careers, a testament to the strong connections built through the group.

We would especially encourage parents of our younger pupils, particularly those in Year 8, to come along and get involved. It is a fantastic way to meet other parents, develop new friendships and build strong links with the school community.

Join us for a cup of tea, a chat and an opportunity to explore ideas and discover how you can help support the school your child attends.

We look forward to welcoming both familiar and new faces and working together to continue making a positive difference for our pupils and school community.

It was fantastic to welcome former Olympian and local boxing legend Paddy Barnes to Edmund Rice College today. 🥊

Paddy spent time with our Year 8 pupils during their PE lessons, introducing them to a range of boxing exercises and sharing his enthusiasm for the sport.

The reception from pupils was phenomenal, with everyone thoroughly enjoying the experience and embracing the challenge of trying something new.

Opportunities like this inspire our young people to stay active, work hard and believe in what they can achieve.

Paddy is always a welcome visitor to ERC and we would like to thank him for giving his time and expertise to our pupils.

📚 A Fantastic Start to Our Independent Study Hub! 📚

Last week, we were delighted to see such a fantastic turnout from our Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 pupils at our Independent Study Hub.

The hub provides a quiet, supportive environment where pupils can complete homework, revise and receive help from staff. There is also water and snacks available for everyone attending.

The Independent Study Hub runs every Wednesday until 4:30pm in the Sixth Form Study Centre, and all pupils are welcome.

We look forward to seeing even more pupils take advantage of this excellent opportunity in the weeks ahead!

Today, on World Mental Health Day, our school foyer was transformed into a powerful celebration of pupil voice as pupils came together to create a Mental Health Notice Board.

Throughout the day, pupils shared their thoughts, experiences and recommendations about mental health and wellbeing in Edmund Rice College. The ideas, suggestions and feedback were truly inspiring and we are committed to taking these views into account as we continue to strengthen wellbeing provision across our school community.

At Edmund Rice College, we firmly believe that pupil voice matters. Our pupils are at the heart of everything we do and their insights are invaluable in helping us create a supportive, caring and inclusive environment for all.

A huge well done and thank you to Mr Connolly for the outstanding effort he has put into promoting mental health awareness throughout this term and especially during this week's activities. His passion and commitment to supporting the wellbeing of our pupils and wider community has been evident every step of the way. He even managed to squeeze in a mini bun sale today, raising money for mental health charities while spreading plenty of smiles along the way!

A special mention also go to Zaria Warren (Year 10), who very kindly created and distributed beautiful handmade crochet keychains to staff today. Such a thoughtful gesture from an exceptional pupil, demonstrating the kindness, empathy and community spirit that we are so proud to see in Edmund Rice College.

Well done to everyone who played their part in making World Mental Health Day such a meaningful and positive occasion.

Together, we continue to build a school community where wellbeing matters and everyone feels valued.

Ní neart go cur le chéile - strength through unity! 💚

World Mental Health Day at ERC 💙

To celebrate World Mental Health Day, our Year 8 and Year 9 pupils enjoyed some time away from the classroom to take part in a fun and interactive quiz competition. Working together in teams, pupils tested their knowledge, shared plenty of laughs and enjoyed some fantastic friendly competition.

The event was full of brilliant craic, with our Year 8 pupils joined by Year 13 students as part of Edmund Rice College’s 'Cara' Programme. Through this initiative, Year 13 pupils support Year 8 pupils during their transition to secondary school, helping them build friendships, confidence and a real sense of belonging within our school community.

A huge thank you to Darren from Speedquizzing NI - Northern Ireland for facilitating today’s quiz. The pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed the event, and Darren helped create a fun, engaging atmosphere for everyone involved.

Congratulations also to all of our winning teams on their fantastic performances! 🏆👏

A wonderful way to celebrate wellbeing, connection and friendship while having lots of fun along the way.
