💙 What a brilliant first week back we’ve had! 💙

It’s been so lovely welcoming our new faces and seeing lots of familiar ones back too! 😊

We’ve been busy exploring, creating, playing and having lots of fun along the way! From getting outside and enjoying parachute play, to getting creative with junk modelling, squishing and shaping play dough and settling down with some favourite stories. 🎨🪂🌳📚

There have been plenty of smiles, giggles and busy little hands — what a fantastic start to the new school year! 💙😊

🌿 Adventure Island is back! 💙

This week we’ve been revisiting our play parameters and reminding ourselves about the ways we can play, explore and have fun safely together. We’ve been thinking about boundaries, making good choices and looking out for each other while we play.

There’s been lots of opportunity to get back to our favourite places, use our imaginations, work together, solve problems and build confidence and independence through play. 🌳🪵

A fun week of playing, exploring and learning together! 💙🌿

💙 One of the things we love about Newton Poppleford Primary School is the way our children look out for one another.

Year 5 were so excited to meet their new Reception buddies on Monday, and it was lovely to see them already starting to build those relationships. The Year 5 children have also been coming down at lunchtime to play with Reception in the outdoor area.

For our Reception children, having an older child they know and can look to for a friendly face makes such a difference as they settle into school. And for our Year 5s, it’s a lovely opportunity to take on responsibility, be a role model and show kindness and care to our youngest pupils.

It’s really special seeing the Reception children being looked after and the Year 5s taking such pride in being there for them. 💙

🗺️ Year 2 have made a fantastic start to the year by developing their mapping skills!

They have been using OS maps to identify local landmarks, including our school, and learning how to understand and use different map symbols.

The children then put their new geographical skills into practice by creating their very own maps of the school, carefully thinking about how to represent different features and landmarks.

A fantastic hands-on way to develop their map-reading and geographical skills! 💙🗺️

Year 6 have been getting to grips with how the heart works and exploring how it pumps blood around the body! 🫀

Using jam jars, straws, water and tape, they created their own working models to investigate how the heart pumps and moves blood around our bodies.

Our Year 1 children have been getting to know their new classroom, learning about their routines and discovering what it means to be part of their Year 1 team.

Mrs Hall is so proud of how beautifully they have settled into their new year group and the enthusiasm they have shown already.

💙 A huge thank you to our wonderful caretaker, Adrian! 💙

Adrian works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our school running smoothly and looking its very best. Over the summer, he has been working incredibly hard getting everything ready and prepared for the return of our pupils and staff.

So much of what Adrian does happens quietly behind the scenes, but it makes such a huge difference to our school community.

Thank you, Adrian, for everything you do. We really are very lucky to have you! 💙👏
