À l’occasion de la Journée internationale pour la conservation de l’écosystème des mangroves, célébrée le 26 juillet, notre Research Programme Manager, Adiilah Aungraheeta, responsable du programme SOS Mangroves, a participé à l’émission Point Virgule Écologie, diffusée le 23 juillet sur les ondes de RM1 et animée par Roselyne Désiré.
Cette intervention s'inscrit dans le cadre de nos activités de sensibilisation dédiées à la Journée internationale pour la conservation de l'écosystème des mangroves, instaurée par l'UNESCO en 2015 afin de promouvoir la protection de ces forêts côtières indispensables.

Strengthening partnerships to advance human rights in Mauritius ⚖️
🇬🇧 High Commissioner, Paul Brummell, alongside our Head of Political, Juliet Walton and Human Rights Lead, Hugh Kemp, met with the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission Mauritius, Satyajit Boolell SC, to discuss areas of mutual interest, including efforts to reduce gender-based violence and support equality and inclusion. Le CEO de la Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, Vikash Tatayah, s'illustre sur la scène scientifique internationale en co-signant une étude d'envergure inédite publiée dans la r***e Science. Issue du projet mondial MegaMove rassemblant près de 400 chercheurs, cette recherche s'appuie sur le suivi de près de 16 000 animaux marins pour cartographier les zones océaniques vitales à leur survie et démontrer que la seule protection de 30 % des océans d'ici 2030 ne suffira pas à sauvegarder leurs habitats essentiels.

If you look at a map of a river valley, you will often see curved, U-shaped lakes scattered alongside the main river. These are "Oxbow Lakes", ancient river bends that got cut off from the main flow. Due to modern levees and human development, many of these lakes have completely dried up or turned into stagnant, unhealthy puddles.
"Oxbow Lake Re-activation" is a massive win for coastal and inland watershed engineering! By carefully digging out the old mud plugs and reconnecting these lakes to the main river, we restore the natural "flood pulse."
Here is why reconnecting them is a game-changer:
1️ Nature's Pressure Valve: When the river floods, the water rushes into the oxbow lake instead of destroying towns downstream, safely storing millions of gallons of water.
