For all the families struggling out there- HOPE ###

29 months ago I saw you fall
And I dropped everything.
I gave it everything I could because I knew I needed to do this.
You were ill.
Oh my, you were so ill.

It was time for nourishment, not arguments..
It was time for us.

We stopped with the do******gs.
We hunkered down.
We started again.
Every bedtime, mealtime, staring out the window time.
We started again.
Oh my, you were so ill.

Slowly it changed.
Slowly you came back.
Slowly slowly slowly.

So we started to let people in again.
Think about options.
What could that look like?

“Thank you for trusting us with your family”
I think I can let go.
I did let go.

I mean, it was still slow.
I had to work hard on myself during this time.
But you were ready.
You needed it.
We could trust these people.

So now we start a new year and you are well.
Oh my goodness, you are so well.
You have done it.
You want me to go.
And it feels truly excellent.

(But I might need a power nap)

Capacity grows..

Things can change.

Not by repeated exposure to harmful environments or unsafe ones but by resetting.

Then we build from here to a new place, one we can trust, one we know is different.

This may take some careful encouragement, patience and time.

(Slowly, slowly, this is going to take a lot for all of us)

It may take us realising our resistance. We must work hard on us too.

Our children want us to let them go, when we find something safe.

But we can do this together if we truly believe that the new environment is totally different.
(I think you'll know it when you see it)

One who works to the child’s strengths and needs.

This is how we increase our capacity.

Gradually we let go more and more from a place of security.

But I repeat not from exposure over and over to a damaging one- no this will only break us.

Resilience comes through safety and healing first, then the right place.

A lovely day. I am so proud of my pupils they try always to do their best when they come to a Zoom session.
A year two starter today- Can they show the correct spelling used in a spoken sentence? Task was to write and draw the correct homophone before the minute timer went off.
