Help shape the future of Summerfields Primary School
Could you help local children be the best they can be?
We're inviting expressions of interest from people who would like to join our Governing Body as a Co-opted Governor from Autumn Term 2026.
At Summerfields, everything begins with children. Our Governors work alongside Headteacher Melanie Gartell and the school's leadership team to help ensure every child has the opportunity to Achieve, Belong and Care.
We're fortunate to have a committed and experienced Governing Body and are now looking to strengthen it further by welcoming someone who can bring fresh perspective and experience—particularly around education, learning and helping children achieve their full potential.
You don't need previous Governor experience.
We'll provide:
✔ Full induction and ongoing training
✔ Mentoring and support from an experienced Governing Body
✔ A flexible commitment (around six evening meetings each year)
✔ A genuinely rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference to children and families in our community
If you'd like to find out more, we'd love to have an informal conversation.

If this opportunity isn't for you, perhaps you know somebody who would make an excellent Governor. Please consider sharing this post or tagging someone who comes to mind.
Many of our strongest Governors first became involved because somebody encouraged them to take that first step.

Year 1 & 2 are all in high spirits. We are currently having a snack before we go into The Blue Reef Aquarium, Southsea.
The hover ride over to Southsea was smooth, the children enjoyed looking out of the windows and chatted excitedly.

Day 2 of Urban Saints:
Some of us may be a little tired this morning but after a good, hearty breakfast, everyone was ready to start this mornings activities.
Bushcraft has been very popular in the copse and with archery being very popular yesterday they all got to have another go with a fantastic competition of knock the king or queen off the top spot. Well done to Orlaith who was the first groups champion and who became Queen, winning a fantastic golden plastic trophy 🏆😁
The games room is very popular during break times too. 🎱 🏓 🃏 ♟️

Year 6 have had a fantastic first day at Urban Saints. They wore their hoodies with pride.
They have amazed themselves doing archery and were super detectives on the scavenger hunt. Well done to the winning teams who won a golden plastic trophy 🏆😁
This afternoon they have thoroughly enjoyed the beach. Splashing in the sea or chilling on the shore, fun was had by all.

Has your child been enjoying Wellness Wednesday's?
This is a reminder that we will be taking part in this for the rest of this term.

Today, some of our year 2 children had the chance to read to some of the residents at Vecta House Care Home - Barchester Healthcare. The children and residents really benefit from this opportunity and we are very pleased to have this link with Vecta House.
