** P5/P6 WAU Trip to Armagh Planetarium **

P5/P6 enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to Armagh Planetarium as part of their World Around Us topic, ‘Space.’

The children began the day by watching an informative and interactive film about the solar system in the planetarium dome. They then listened to an engaging presentation about stars and constellations before experiencing an exciting space rollercoaster ride.

The pupils also took part in a rocket-making workshop where they designed and built their own rockets. Afterwards, they tested their creations outdoors, launching them into the sky to see whose rocket could travel the furthest.

The day continued in the exhibition area, where the children explored a variety of interactive displays and learned about the lives of astronauts and the challenges of living and working in space. They had great fun investigating the exhibits, gadgets and hands-on activities while deepening their understanding of our fascinating universe.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable day, with the children demonstrating excellent enthusiasm, curiosity and engagement throughout.

*** A Buzzing Visit to P4/P5 from Our Local Beekeeper! ***

We were delighted to welcome local beekeeper Marty Cardwell to our school for a fascinating talk about bees and beekeeping.

Marty brought along a real hive for the children to observe and investigate, as well as fresh honeycomb, beekeeping equipment, a beekeeper's suit, a smoker and a special brush used when working with bees.

The children were amazed to learn that a hive can contain up to 70,000 bees at certain times of the year and that while worker bees may only live for around 35 days, the queen bee can live for up to two years. They enjoyed tasting delicious local honey and asking Marty lots of thoughtful questions.

To finish the visit, the children received certificates, stickers and seed bombs to help support pollinators by growing sunflowers at home.

A huge thank you to Marty Cardwell for such an engaging and memorable experience. The children were thoroughly enthused and inspired by everything they learned about these incredible insects as part of their WAU topic, 'Food Glorious Food'.

*** National Poetry Day 2026 ***

To celebrate National Poetry Day 2026, pupils across Sacred Heart P.S. explored this year's theme, "Wonder."

Children engaged in a range of creative poetry activities designed to spark imagination and encourage self-expression.

Pupils in P4/P5 created thoughtful and imaginative acrostic poems, using the theme of wonder to inspire their writing. In P5/P6, children took part in enjoyable Open Mic Sessions, confidently sharing their poems with classmates and celebrating the power of spoken word. Meanwhile, our P7 pupils used J2Create to publish and present their poetry digitally, combining creativity with technology to produce impressive pieces of work.

The day was a wonderful celebration of language, creativity and imagination, with pupils embracing the opportunity to explore what inspires awe and curiosity in the world around them.

*** Scoil Spreagtha Case Study Day ***

Sacred Heart P.S. were delighted to welcome representatives from Scoil Spreagtha as part of our Case Study Day. The visit focused on celebrating and promoting the use of Irish throughout our school community as we work towards achieving three-year Scoil Spreagtha accreditation.

During the day, pupils from P5/P6 and P7 participated in two engaging workshops, including the popular and interactive game of Traitors, which encouraged communication, teamwork and the use of Irish in a fun and meaningful context.

The visiting representatives also met with focus groups of children to gather their views and experiences of learning and using Irish within the school. Pupils spoke confidently about the opportunities they have to use Gaeilge in class and across school life.

A special word of thanks goes to Mrs O'Toole, who has been leading this initiative within our school. Her commitment and enthusiasm have played a key role in developing and promoting Irish language learning and culture throughout Sacred Heart.

We look forward to continuing our Scoil Spreagtha journey and further strengthening the role of Gaeilge in our school community.

*** Gaeilgeoir na Míosa - Meán Fómhair ***

Comhghairdeas mór le Fiadh (P1) a roghnaíodh mar Gaeilgeoir na Míosa do Mheán Fómhair!

Tá sár-iarracht déanta ag Fiadh ag úsáid focail agus frásaí Gaeilge sa seomra ranga gach lá. Táimid an-bhródúil as a díograis agus a dearcadh dearfach i leith na Gaeilge.

Maith thú, a Fiadh!
