Critical Thinking in EYFS - There is so much we focus upon in Nursery , this week it has been more open ended to see what the children do and how they behave in play and exploration . It really has been fabulous to see the children, using so many skills. You’d never guess we are such amazing critical thinkers and problem solvers!

From building dens, secret hide outs, space ships, dinosaur dens, jungle animal houses -it is how children have their own ideas, make links between concepts, and develop strategies for solving problems through play and exploration.
Fostering critical thinking helps build resilience, problem-solving abilities, and independence.
Key components in the EYFS include:
Having their own ideas:
Thinking of new and meaningful ideas and finding new ways to do things.
Making links:
Connecting experiences, predicting outcomes, and testing hypotheses.
Developing strategies:
Planning actions, making decisions, and reviewing how well their approach worked.
Crucially along with developing our social skills of collaboration , co operation, building friendships and attachments.

So if anyone says you ‘only play’ in Nursery - yes we certainly do- and play is so important !!

Lot of pattern and symmetry both indoors and out !
Outdoor learning is so important to develop all our physical skills along side our personal, social and emotional skills in sharing , problem solving and taking turns. We were extending our learning in the garden area looking for butterflies and mini beasts following on from our story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. This led us to being super scientists and marvellous mathematicians learning about life cycles and symmetry ! Wow we are so busy in Nursery !

If you are interested in a place in our fantastic setting , please get in touch with our office on 01782 432530 for September starters. We will be having our visit days very soon !

This is getting ready for reception - in our phonics sessions we have been practising some letter formation and writing some rhyming words. Working out the first sound, the middle sound and the final sound. We are very proud of Nursery !

We have had a fantastic sports morning in celebration of the World Cup. We watched the opening ceremony and have taken part in our own penalty shoot out. We scored 37 goals!!! Luckily for us the goal keeper was not very good!!

We have had a brilliant morning in Nursery on Friday . Mr Sheikh kindly gave up his time to come and talk to the children about his job as a doctor in the A and E department. He described ways in which he helps patients get better and even talked to us about CPR. He brought some hospital dolls in for us to have a go on. We had to press very hard and fast and we had to do it to the music “Baby Shark”. The children shared knowledge that they had previously learned form other visitors which was brilliant!
A huge thank you Mr Sheikh for coming in to see us. The children are learning so much from all of our visitors!

We had a super, exciting morning in Nursery yesterday ! Mrs Tunnicliffe very kindly came in to talk to the children about her very important job as a paramedic. She talked to the children about what her job involves and how she helps people who are sick or hurt. Mrs Tunnicliffe showed us some of the equipment she has in her very heavy bag! She even arranged for a paramedic vehicle to come to school for us to look at. The sirens were very loud!!! Thank you so much Mrs Tunnicliffe and Isabelle for being a super helper for your Mum !
We would like to say a huge thank you to all our visitors that have come in to talk to the children about their occupations. It is invaluable for the children to meet people who do these roles in person and hear directly from them. It really does bring the curriculum and learning to life!!

😊More People who help us ! 😊
We have had a visit last week from two of our local Police, Community, Support workers. They have talked to the children about the ways they help us and the rest of our community. They showed us their uniform and the equipment they use. The children were very engaged and shared their knowledge with them. They were very impressed with what the children already knew! 😊
