Team V - Wokingham

Team V - Wokingham A youth volunteer group running social action campaigns in Wokingham. http://vinspired.com/teamv/lea It improves the chances of a child staying in school.

*** 1 in 3 children in the UK do not own a book ***

*** 25% of children do not think that reading is important ***

*** 43% of children in low income homes rarely or never read for pleasure ***

*** People with poor literacy skills are more likely to be dissatisfied with their life ***

Reading is important because:

It increases a child's vocabulary and grammar, and has the potential to improve

writing skills. It improves future probability of employment and higher quality of life. Offers laughter and entertainment and an alternative to television. Nurtures emotional development and improves self esteem. It is clear that reading is incredibly important in a childs development and can have a real positive impact on their lives. Over the next 7 weeks Team v will be running pop-up story circles in unexpected places, creative writing workshops to help children write their own stories and designing and launching a story writing competition to profile the creativity and imagination of children in Wokingham. This campaign is going to be incredibly rewarding but also a lot of fun! Working with children in a creative way to inspire them to continue reading outside of school! If you would like to get involved or help out with the campaign in anyway please contact Charlee on [email protected] or follow us on twitter .
