⏳ Is Putting Things Off Holding You Back?

We've all got something we keep meaning to do.

A personal goal. A healthier habit. A task that never quite makes it to the top of the list.

But why do we keep putting things off - even when we know we'd feel better for getting started?

This week's "Weekend Wellbeing" explores some fascinating research into procrastination, along with two other findings worth thinking about.

🏃 Could just THREE minutes help you build a better exercise habit?

💚 Are we overlooking the everyday things that make us happy?

⏳ Could unfinished tasks be adding to our stress?

Plus, a little Weekend Fun and a simple challenge to try yourself.

🏋️ Could weights give your brain a boost?

That's one of the questions we're looking at in this week's Weekend Wellbeing - following some interesting new research into strength training and the midlife brain.

Also this week:

🧠 Could mindfulness help us take back control of our attention?

💼 Are we getting too good at coping with work pressure — when perhaps our minds actually need time to switch off?

And our Challenge Yourself This Weekend invites you to step outside your normal routine and try something a little different.

Three new pieces of research. Some practical ideas. And something to try this weekend.

A new Weekend Wellbeing Read is now live.

This week looks at tiny habits, better sleep and handling pressure at work.

I’d be interested to know which one you find most useful.

At this time of year, many people feel the pressure building.

Family commitments.
Work deadlines before Christmas.
Trying to fit in time with friends.

Even when relationships are strong, these kinds of pressures can create strain. One of the real gifts is being able to rebuild closeness again - restoring trust and that sense of emotional connection.

We’ve created a 7-day guide on rebuilding trust after conflict, designed for situations just like this. It works for many kinds of relationships, not just one specific scenario.

The guide takes you (or both of you) through a simple daily process. It’s not only about bridging a gap, but about strengthening connection and reducing the chances of the same strain resurfacing in the future. There’s a self-reflection element alongside practical techniques.

Research in emotional regulation shows that calm communication and follow-through can rebuild perceived trust by over 60% within two weeks. (Journal of Family Psychology, 2023)

If you’d like a copy, just reply and ask.

This approach isn’t about ignoring hurt - it’s about replacing defensiveness with grounded awareness, which is the foundation of real connection.

I have a wonderful friend who has experienced a number of difficult moments in her life, starting quite young. Over time, that shaped how she responds to criticism - it can linger far longer than it should.

What’s interesting is that our brains often treat criticism as a kind of threat. The same areas involved in physical danger can activate when someone disapproves.

Many of us grow up with the message that criticism means failure. And most of the time, we’re far harder on ourselves than anyone else.

This isn’t about blame. It’s about understanding what’s happening internally so you can respond more intentionally.

There’s some solid research behind this. Studies show that people who use brief grounding or self-affirmation exercises after negative feedback tend to be less defensive and more mentally flexible - both strong foundations for confidence and wellbeing (Creswell et al., 2005; Sherman et al., 2009).

We’ve created a simple 5-step guide designed for moments like these - when you’ve had a knock and want to steady yourself rather than spiral.

If you’d like a copy, just reply and ask.

The reason this approach works is that shifting your focus away from external criticism and back to internal grounding helps restore a sense of self-worth and autonomy. It breaks the cycle of rumination and allows you to respond, rather than react - a core habit of emotionally resilient people.

Are boundaries important in relationships 🤔

Whilst making new guides and training on relationships, we came upon the following:

"Research shows people who practise short assertiveness routines report 52% less daily stress and stronger self-esteem (Journal of Behavioural Therapy, 2023)."

Boundaries do not mean resistance, or training for resiliance ,or putting up any blockage - they are simply about protecting your time, energy, and wellbeing.

If you feel that you are a Yes person all of the time - consider getting some short assertiveness routines for a healthier life.

We are lauching a new give away for the end of 2024. It is a recording called 'Disappearing an Unwanted Condition' and it is a guided recording to help you reduce pain or discomfort.

This came from a tape (cassett in old school language) that hasn't been around for years and has just resurfaced. I have cleaned it up (well run it through Audacity to help reduce any background hiss) and put it up on our ecomm shop.

Now my shop won't allow free items, so I have added a voucher! You can get your recording today by following the link to the item and then using the voucher code 'Disappear'.

I have also added 2 other bonus gifts as a thank you for following our page, supporting us and being a great person!

I only ask one thing, please share this post.
