At our September meeting, we welcomed Steve Farnhill, who spoke to us about his solo bike ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Steve shared stories from the journey, including the challenges he faced, the places he visited and some memorable moments and characters he met along the way. It was fascinating to hear what it takes to complete such a long-distance ride — both physically and mentally.

Thank you to Steve for an interesting and enjoyable evening, and to everyone who joined us.

For our August meeting, we swapped the village hall for the beautiful surroundings of Oak Tree Farm Oak Tree Alpaca Farm in Woodborough.

We were treated to a tour of their gorgeous gardens, before meeting the real stars of the show – their wonderful herd of alpacas! 🦙 We loved learning more about these fascinating (and very characterful!) animals and getting the chance to meet them up close.

A huge thank you to everyone at Oak Tree Alpaca Farm for such a warm welcome and a really lovely evening. Beautiful gardens, alpacas and great company – a perfect way to spend a summer evening! 🌸🌿

🌞 July WI Meeting 🌞

A huge thank you to our very own, Debbie, for treating us to a fantastic summer salads and desserts demonstration at last night’s July meeting.

Debbie shared some delicious seasonal recipes, including:
🥑 Guacamole
🥄 Homemade Mayonnaise
🧀 Feta & Mint Dip
👑 Coronation Cauliflower
🍦 Homemade Ice Cream
🎂 A beautiful Summer Celebration Cake

We all had a chance to sample everything, and it was absolutely delicious - one lucky member also won a carton of homemade ice cream in our raffle. There was plenty of inspiration for summer entertaining with plenty of ideas we’ll definitely be recreating at home.

A big thank you again, Debbie, for such an enjoyable, informative and very tasty evening. 💐

🎉 70th birthday celebrations for Halam WI 🎉

At their May meeting, Halam Women’s Institute marked a very special milestone as members came together to celebrate their 70th birthday!

It was a very special evening filled with fun, laughter and plenty of dancing with Jo Porter from Kitchen Dancing UK who led the group through some great routines set to music from the past seven decades. 🎶

A beautifully decorated celebration cake - from Southwell baker Weng at Bake, Love, Smile - took centre stage, while members enjoyed sharing memories and the opportunity to look through photographs and other mementos from their 70-year history. 🎂

Halam WI has long been a huge part of village life, offering opportunities for learning, creativity and friendship - bringing people together through regular meetings and events. ✨

The group are incredibly proud of reaching this milestone in their history and to still have such a thriving and ever-growing WI in a small village. ❤️

New members are always very welcome - to find out more about the WI, follow them on social media WI or drop them an email at [email protected]. 📲

We were delighted to welcome our guest speaker, Lorraine Appleton, to our April meeting - Lorraine delivered a truly eye-opening talk on Fashion Upcycling 👗♻️ — showing us how to make the most of what we already have.

Did you know the textile industry is one of the biggest contributors to pollution? 😮 Lorraine shared powerful insights on how so many garments end up in landfill… but also how we can be part of the solution.

We were so impressed by her creative pieces made from recycled fabrics — proof that sustainability can be stylish AND innovative! ✂️✨

Thank you Lorraine and all our members who joined us !
