Tutor Focus - Ellie J Morgan - We are so excited to have Ellie join us this year for the first time. She's teaching willow backpacks and willow shoulder bags (I'm booked onto the backpack course... can't wait!).

A little about Ellie in her own words -

I am a maker.

A carver of spoons

A weaver of baskets

A knitter of yarn

I studied fine art many years ago, but have always used textiles and natural materials to make functional objects. I am now a full-time spoon carver and basket maker since a change of career.

If it's not made, it'll be grown on my allotment in South West London - this includes some of the willow and wood I use in my products.

I love sharing my skills and meeting people at markets and fairs.

I run workshops in spoon carving and basketry.

I am a Yeoman of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers, a member of the Basketry Association as well as a member of the Association of Pole Lathe Turners and Green Wood Workers

Last spot available for hazel hurdles this weekend.

Immerse yourself in the heritage craft of hurdle making at Nettlecombe Craft School, set among the countryside and landscapes that have supported this tradition for centuries.

Open to all experience levels, this workshop will introduce you to the essentials of green woodworking as you split, shape, and weave hazel rods into your own handcrafted hurdle.

Working with traditional tools like billhooks and mallets, you’ll gain a practical understanding of techniques that can be applied across greenwood working projects. The exact project will be decided on the day, giving you the chance to create a unique piece, whether it’s a fence panel or garden feature, plus you’ll be given tips and tricks to help build your skills at home.

Surrounded by the peaceful woodland, you’ll feel connected to the history of this craft, and with all tools and materials provided, you can focus fully on the joy of traditional woodworking.

New course just added! Forage & Feast: A Guided Walk into the World of Wild Mushrooms with

Step into the woods and uncover the fascinating world of fungi on this hands-on foraging experience at Nettlecombe Craft School. Led by an experienced guide, this 2.5-hour walk is designed to awaken your senses, deepen your connection to the natural world, and equip you with the knowledge to safely identify, prepare, and enjoy wild mushrooms and edible plants.

We’ll begin with a warm welcome, a safety briefing, and an overview of the session, including the legal and sustainable principles of responsible foraging. Then we’ll head into the surrounding landscape to search for seasonal mushrooms—interspersed with stops to explore the edible and medicinal plants we find along the way.

Back at the craft school, we’ll sort and safely identify our finds using trusted field guides. You’ll learn how to distinguish common edible species, avoid potential lookalikes, and discover the culinary and healing properties of the day’s harvest. To round off the session, we’ll prepare a simple wild taster so you can experience the flavours of the forest firsthand.

The course concludes with a relaxed Q&A—perfect for digging deeper into preservation techniques, cooking tips, and how to safely continue your foraging journey.

Whether you're a curious beginner or looking to deepen your knowledge, this friendly and informative session offers the perfect introduction to the world of wild food.
