From ambition to delivery: preparing the UK nuclear supply chain for what comes next.
Following the second Nuclear Supply Chain Summit in Derby, one message came through strongly: the opportunity for the UK nuclear supply chain is significant, but manufacturing readiness will be critical to turning future programmes into successful delivery.
For Graham Engineering Ltd, the discussions around capacity, repeatability, standardisation, skills and long-term supplier investment were particularly relevant.
Supporting nuclear programmes requires more than manufacturing capacity alone. It requires the engineering capability, quality culture, traceability and manufacturing discipline needed to operate successfully within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
As Paul Waring, reflected following the event:
"The opportunity for UK manufacturing is significant, but suppliers need the visibility and confidence to invest ahead of demand. People, equipment and manufacturing capability can't simply be switched on when an order arrives. Stronger collaboration and clearer programme visibility will be essential if we want the UK supply chain ready to deliver."
