Great great video about how children with learning difficulties are actually gifted, and how it is these very children who schools do not diagnose; why? Because they score average across the board. Average, until the massive peak above and below the line. Learning difficulties are about a pattern that shows up, and not a tick box. There needs to be more of a distinction here between learning difficulties and learning disabled.

Unfortunately this kind of evidence is being brushed aside. These are the kids that are scoring 98/99 th percentile, which is the top 1 and 2 % in intelligence tests- yet they're in all the bottom groups in school. The kids that aren't paying attention, the ones that are zoning out, and the ones that are being described as fine- but they're not fine.

Gifted is not necessarily being wonderful in all academic areas. These are the kids that appear slow but are actually processing every piece of sensory information available. And these are the kids that are phenomenal in areas that are not being taught in the classroom. And sometimes the kids who can better understand maths 4 years above them than their own age level.

And these are the kids that are potentially better off in self-directed learning.
