Tonight I know that many of you are nervously awaiting tomorrow’s text or for the postie to bring your letter, as it will be results day in a few hours.

The most important thing I have to say just now - is that everyone needs to relax and enjoy the rest of their summer holidays. You all deserve that, whatever tomorrow brings. ☀️ 🌊 ✉️

Happy New Year everyone and all the best for going back to school this week.

The May exam clock is now ticking and many have sat, or are about to sit, prelims.

For those who have already done so, hopefully the exam has given you a good idea of what you need to focus on.

If your young person will be taking their Nat 5, Higher or Advanced Higher Maths in 2026, now is the best time to start work to get them really confident. I can help them get ready to ace those exams and get the qualifications they deserve to maximise their potential.

I was delighted to hear from one of my current students just now, that he has received an early, unconditional university offer. He worked hard with me and by himself and did well in his Higher last year.

I currently have a few slots available for in-person maths tuition in your home.

Please message me for more information, fees and available days and times.

I’m here to help with mastering the required techniques, ready to achieve the best results.

With the exams next week I want to wish everybody sitting them, the very best of luck.

I’m having a busy weekend with quite a few students having opted for extra exam technique sessions.

My exam tips for all candidates are:
Have the best possible night’s sleep and a decent breakfast for energy.

Make sure you have a snack with you for between papers.

Try to stay as calm as you can.

You’ve worked really hard and if a difficult question comes up, remember that’s the same for everyone else too.

For every question, take your time to carefully read it, make very sure you are answering exactly the question that is being asked.

Any question that says ‘show’ or ‘prove’ - don’t forget that to secure full marks, these answers require to include your explanation in written English as well as calculations.

Keep an eye on the clock and keep on working right until the end of the exam is called, using every last second to check over your workings.

Remember, on the calculator paper, there are several questions where you really should use your calculator to double check your answer. For example the solution of trig equations.

Look carefully at the required form of the answer, eg significant figures or decimal places and be sure of the units needed for area or volume.

Please stay in touch and I hope to hear lots of good news when the results come out. May the sun continue to shine when the exams are over.

Have a great summer!
Paul

Hope everyone is working away at their maths with the exams coming up soon.

As usual I’m advising everyone to keep up their study, little and often - as that’s the main route to success in May.

If you’d like any help, please get in touch. My afternoon and evening slots are now all full but depending on your location, I may still be able to help students who have free periods in the daytime. I also have a few daytime slots available in the Easter holidays.

For those who’re not yet at the exams stage, I expect to have some capacity for new clients after mid-May so please get in touch now to book in.

My one-to-one, in person tutoring sessions let us work on exactly what your young person needs to do, to gain those good grades. We can put in place everything that’s needed to maximise those final results.

I’m pleased to have heard of so many encouraging prelim results for my students, plus the university offers that are coming in now.

The clock is ticking with under four months until the exams. My best advice for everyone just now is to keep up your study, little and often. That’s what will deliver success in May.

If you’d like any help, please get in touch, and if I have availability in your location I’ll do my best to find an evening slot for you.

For those with free periods, please also contact me for daytime options, which are usually possible in most locations.

There’s still time to learn the essential exam techniques, or maybe you’d benefit from a recap of some specific maths methods?

My one-to-one, in person sessions let us see exactly what you’ll need for getting those grades, and we can put in place good plans to maximise your final result.

Over the current school Christmas holidays I have some extra slots available most days.

Please message me to find out more, or to book and get started.

Last year, after the class tests/prelims, demand for help was huge and all my sessions were booked up quickly. So if you’re thinking of some tutoring for your young person, please get in early to secure a slot.

I come to your home to tutor in person. In my experience students and their parents find this more effective than online.

My focus is to help my students to build their maths confidence and master the essential skills needed for their best exam results, at all levels.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Christmas stocking filler ideas! 🎁

I’m really enjoying working with my current influx of young people - all of whom are now making good progress with their maths.

It has been great to meet them all and get started in good time for the exam season which always comes round quickly.

One of my tutees was really pleased to receive an excellent maths test result at school this week, showing the benefit of all his hard work.

Nearly all PD Maths Tutoring evening and Friday afternoon slots are full at the moment, however things do change for students with sports and other commitments, so please get in touch if you’re thinking you may need tutoring and I will try to help.

I do have availability over the school Christmas holidays so how about booking in some extra Christmas cheer for your family in the form of a maths consolidation session? 🎅 🧮 🎁 ♾️🎄😂.

Bookings are now open for these, so just drop me a message for all the info.

See you soon
Paul

That’s our young people been back to school for almost two weeks here in East Lothian and Edinburgh.

How’s everyone finding maths so far this term?

If your teen will be taking their Nat 5, Higher or Advanced Higher Maths in 2025, now is the best time to start work to get them really confident. I can help them get ready to ace those exams and get the qualifications they deserve.

I currently have a few slots available for in-person maths tuition in your home. Last year, as the exam season came close, there was huge demand and I will again only have time for so many tutees, so please get in touch as early as possible.

Please message me for more information, fees, and available days and times.

I’m looking forward to helping your young person master the required techniques, ready to achieve the best results.
