It’s that time of year again! As we are quickly getting through this last term before the summer holidays we are beginning to think about transitions to school and nursery.

Starting nursery can feel daunting if it's the first time your child has been away from home without a parent or carer. It's important to talk to children about the transition and about their excitement or their worries. You can help them prepare for the new routine by visiting their new nursery (if you are able to) and by developing various skills through play!

Going To Nursery 🧸

Self-care Skills
Practising self-care tasks with your child before they go to nursery will help increase their confidence and independence. Self-care tasks are anything you do to look after your physical, mental, emotional and social health and wellbeing. Some examples of self-care tasks your child could practise are:

🧥 Getting their coat on and off (you could include buttons and zips too!)
💦 Washing their hands after using the toilet
🍉 Choosing and collecting their own snack
💛 Talking about their feelings

Starting Primary school should be an exciting time for a child so here are some tips to consider to help your little one get ready for school.

▪️ Practice self care skills such as putting on coats, fastening buttons, and shoes when you have less pressure on time to get out the door.

▪️Participating in lots of fun games and activities that encourage the use of two hands together and pincer grip activities are great for pre writing skills. Have a look at our little scribblers training video for lots of ideas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAi_33BBDAY

📸 Introducing Our Intergenerational Partners!

We took Stuart along to Grange Nursery School last week to meet Claire and Emma, two fantastic Early Years Practitioners.

We’re so excited to start working with them as part of our intergenerational programme, bringing together our Friends and the children for fun, meaningful activities.

We can’t wait to share more from our visits in the coming weeks!
