Classes this week were heavily inspired by Clare’s wonderful trip to Paris✨

Choreography and movements inspired by Balanchine translated effortless into our weekly classes, particularly through our classical walks and petits jeté, giving our students an opportunity to channel Balanchine’s technique into their ballet.

Join us as we deepen into into the stillness of winter with a truly immersive dance and somatic movement retreat.

With a mix of ballet, contemporary and somatic movement, allow yourself to delve into the beauty of movement and surround yourself in nature; this retreat will be truly transformative and restorative.

Held in a rural dance studio just outside Moira on Saturday 4th February 10am to 6pm.

✨ Half-Term✨
Reminder that this week is half term and classes won’t be running. We’ll be back next week as usual 🩰✨

Barbara is a one of our students who picked up ballet in later years, having never had any previous ballet or dance training.
Barbara says what is enthralling for her about ballet is the “discipline of the movements, the delightful music and the magic of expressing myself in this way. After class there is a sense of how great it is to be alive”.

We have a very exciting trip coming up this weekend at the ballet school✨ A group of students are heading to Dublin to visit Dance World where they will be fitted for pointe shoes - a fantastic milestone for our dancers 🩰

In preparation for our pointe shoe fitting appointment, students have been attending our classes with Robin Holland who has been working with us on the important strength and conditioning we need to appropriately prepare for pointe. In order to avoid injury and ensure dancers are ready for pointe, we are now requiring everyone to attend at least 6 point preparation classes.

It is never too late to start ballet and if you would like to progress to pointe this may be an option for you. We have several mature students who have been attending classes and are now getting their very first pair of pointe shoes!✨🩰

At Clare Novaes Ballet School, we will support and help any student who wants to complete examinations and likewise, we support any students who decide exams are not the route for them.

Our classes cater for both those wanting to complete exams and those who don’t, so there’ll always be a space for you in our classes!

No Sunday blues at the ballet school this week!
We started the week with our ballet retreat, focusing on the restorative quality of nature and dance ✨

We spent the morning warming up and then had a body conditioning ballet class, followed by an immune boosting & invigorating juice, tea, coffee and some slow releasing energy treats.

Then we returned to the bars for more ballet before enjoying a delicious lunch provided by .kitchen

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon walk in the sunshine around the grounds of before returning to the studio for repertoire from Coppelia 🩰

For those of you who are new to Clare Novaes Ballet School, meet Clare!

Clare opened Clare Novaes Ballet School 23 years ago, having trained with the Royal Academy of Dance. Clare is a Silver Swan registered teacher and PBT certified. At Clare Novaes Ballet School students can be entered for certified exams and professional vocational exams.

After training with the Royal Academy of Dance in London Clare’s first teaching job was in Crystal Palace, London, where she taught body alignment to high board divers.

Clare has danced in Israel, London, Brazil and Northern Ireland and currently sits on the board for Theatre and Dance NI.

Clare has a true passion for dance and maintains her own training, attending classes in Dublin and London.

Clare also enjoys Tai Chi, attending Somatic Movement classes and Authentic Movement research.
