Today the Ladybird children went on their leavers trip to the Wild Place! 🌳🪵🌿

Everyone had great fun building a den, working together to carry large branches and once it was complete, we tried to see how many children could fit inside. Some of us made potions using water, mud, leaves, and feathers, carefully mixing everything together with sticks!

Later, we explored crayon rubbing on tree bark, noticing the interesting patterns that appeared on the paper. We then created homes for animals and small world figures, and had lots of fun playing hide and seek. We gathered small twigs and leaves and imagined we could grow our own tomatoes! Using magnifying glasses, we searched for bugs and spotted slugs, ants, and a ladybird.

To finish the day, the ladies toasted marshmallows for everyone, and we all sat carefully around the fire to enjoy them. Just before heading home, we listened to one of our favourite stories, The Gruffalo!

Today we were very lucky to have an ambulance crew come to visit us! The paramedics helped us to climb inside to have a look around, then we each had a turn at sitting in the front to press the blue light switch! We tried on some of the protective clothing, then listened to the siren… it was very noisy! 🚑🚨

The toddler room enjoyed the recent sunshine by going on outings to local parks. They have had fun on the playground and sat in the shade to have a picnic. We played I-Spy and waved at shadows too! ☀️

We also took our dolls for a walk in their buggies, pretending to be mummies while pushing them on the swings and walking them around the play equipment! 🛝

The pre-school room had a great time visiting the College of West Anglia last week, meeting lots of friendly animals. The children really enjoyed feeding the goats, Stan and Maggie, carefully posting vegetables through the fence.

The children loved feeding the donkeys too and were fascinated by some of the more unusual animals. We spotted a bearded dragon, tiny bright‑blue poison dart frogs, snakes, stick insects and lots more!

We were also lucky enough to stroke a rabbit and a guinea pig!

🐥 Over the past couple of weeks we have collaborated with the Happy Chick Company in raising some little chicks from eggs.

11 eggs arrived on the Monday and we were so excited to see new chicks had hatched in their incubator each morning! By the Thursday, all 11 of the eggs had hatched and we loved watching them safely settle in the brooder box, especially when they all huddled together to keep warm under the heat lamp.

We added some items for enrichment and helped to fill their food and water. We saw their wings grow bigger and their feathers coming in too!

This term, we have had visitors from…….

🚓 South Cambs Police
Chris came to talk to us about what he does, but first asked the children what they think the police do. Their answers were “come to our school” and “catch the thieves!” He showed us the flashing lights on the police car and put the siren on too… it was very loud!

👩🏼‍🚒 Cambridge Fire Station
Jo talked to us about what firefighters do, such as putting out fires and rescuing animals. The children had a turn at trying on the protective clothing, such as boots, jacket, flash hood, helmet and gloves!
She showed us her oxygen tank and we listened to her noisy breaths as she breathed through the mask.

🚸 Lollipop person
Phil, our local Road Crossing Patrol Officer, came in to tell us how he helps children to cross the road safely in our village!

🐉 Chinese New Year Workshop
We have been very lucky to have Hailey come in to do a workshop with us for Chinese New Year! She taught us some words and songs in Mandarin and told us the story of Monster Nian. We played instruments such as drums and a gong, as well as having a turn at holding puppets of Chinese lions!

📚 World Book Day!

The theme for this year's activities was ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson. We enjoyed a day of story telling, imagination and Gruffalo themed fun! We wore our cosiest pair of pyjamas and brought with us our favourite book from home, to share with friends.

We went out the big field to go on a Gruffalo adventure as a whole setting to celebrate. Alice read us the story and we hunted for the animals hiding in their homes. We found a fox in a burrow, an owl in a tree, a snake in the blossom tree and finally the Gruffalo on a tree stump! We had lots of fun running across the grass between the hiding places!
