Yesterday we took pupils in a school in Oxfordshire on a journey through the Second World War.

Through interactive storytelling we started with some of the contributing factors leading to this immense conflict, including the fallout from the Great War and hyperinflation, the B**r Hall Putsch (among others).

We then turned to Operation Sealion and how the war turned to the attack on civilians.

The rest of the day was full of activities on how people coped and did their bit, from letting off steam in a Dance Hall, joining the Home Guard and learning to be code breakers.

Oh, and don’t forget the air raid simulator!

We had lots of fun and the children were full of enthusiasm!

We have just finished our last weekend of the Summer!

We spent a fantastic two days as Romans at Glastonbury Abbey. We had our a selection of Roman games for everyone to enjoy and took them on a journey through how Roman's used water in their technology, the amazing equipment they used to build their empire and some of the bizarre beauty practices that they had.

It was a wonderful weekend and great to end on a high!

Arrrgh. It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day!

So naturally, we’re thinking about Vikings.

They sailed the seas. They raided settlements. They took treasure.

But Vikings weren’t pirates...

Or were they?

Tough decisions!

We have spent the last three days helping a massive group of people and magical creatures learn to dance at Renaissance faire UK!

From finding their sea legs with a sailors hornpipe, to energetic polkas, then getting intricate with twirling our Maypole ribbons or something more refined with a Spanish Waltz. There really was something for everyone.

Then our finale was teaching the good people at the masked ball a dance or two!

The energy and enthusiasm from everyone was amazing and we have come back buzzing!

We have had a lovely two days at Milton Keynes Museum running our Home Front WWII day! We have helped keep guests entertained with our selection of 1940s games, our air raid show, our join the home guard show and join the dance with our 1940s dance session. As well as all this we also got people involved with our code breaking activity and making a WWII toy!

What a busy weekend!!

Today is World Beard Day!

If you think of a Viking man you will probably think of him with a beard!

But did you know that Vikings took cleanliness and hygiene very seriously?

They thought it was very important to comb their hair and beards and most people carried their own comb with them at all times.

They took baths regularly and Saturday was known in old Norse as “Laugardagr” which means “bathing day”
