Leaders care about the people affected by their decisions.
Yet one of the most common causes of ethical failure is that decision-makers become increasingly disconnected from the lived reality of those affected by their actions.
The further decision-making moves from lived experience, the greater the risk that assumptions replace understanding.
This was a recurring theme in the Windrush Lessons Learned Review, where decisions and policies were developed without fully understanding the experiences of those affected.
