The Little Language Academy

Another lovely day as we all boarded the Eurostar for a day trip to Paris. We found a French bakery who let us make sable biscuits, a Frenchman brought us brioches for snack which we ate with raspberry jam. Then we headed to the Eiffel Tower and learnt lots of fun facts, before building our own constructions in teams. Then we drew Eiffel Towers on our take home bags. We learnt about the Moulin Rouge and Miss Holly showed us how to do the can can. We walked around Montmartre and learnt about Henri Matisse and made abstract pictures on canvas and wrote postcards to send home. We had a little lie down with the lights off, the fan blowing and got sprayed with water, before getting back on the train home!

Today was a good day. 20 happy and beautifully behaved children, plenty of sunshine and loads of fun activities. The smaller groups this week mean we are able to have lots more chats and conversations about all sorts of things! Relaxing over an ice cold mocktail was my highlight of the day!

It’s nearly time … our Summer Camp starts on 10-13 August in Gerrards Cross for 3-10 year olds and we still have spaces on all four days. Join us from 9am-3pm for as many days as you like and have some Summer fun.

Our fourth and final day of Summer Camp will be the 13th August, and what better way to celebrate … it’s ice cream day! Children will be able to make their own ice cream sundaes, choosing their flavour, then adding different toppings and sauces. We’ll also be baking cupcakes inside ice cream cones and decorating them, painting wooden ice creams, making ice cream scratch art and learning how to order an ice cream in French. We have some ice cream games to play outside - will you freeze or melt?! Parachute play, bubbles and our very popular coloured spot game. Join us for one, two, three or all four days of Summer fun. Come with friends or come alone and make new friends. Suitable for 3-10 year olds. Qualified teaching staff, paediatric first aid trained, DBS checked with high adult:child ratios.

Today’s post is all about Day 3 of our Summer Camp which is taking place on 12th August. We are taking a virtual trip to Paris for the day, but no passports are required!
Children will be encouraged to wear red, white and blue, and will learn all about some iconic Paris landmarks. We will sample French croissants 🥐 for snack, bake some raspberry sable biscuits and learn how to order them in French.
Our craft activities for the day will include learning about Matisse and designing our own Matisse inspired canvas, as well as decorating a French postcard to send home and older children will be able to have a go at doing some French writing too.
There will be Eiffel Tower building, French boules, Parisien pavement chalking, French stories and some cool French songs.

We’ll be celebrating Tropical 🏝️ Tuesday on the second day of Summer Camp on 11th August. Come dressed in your brightest tropical outfits, and enjoy limbo dancing with our giant inflatable limbo pole, wear flower leis and wacky sunglasses as we attempt the ‘beach’ obstacle course. Make a delicious mocktail 🍸 to enjoy with your packed lunch and bake yummy fruity cupcakes 🧁 before making some totally tropical crafts. This will be a great day and is suitable for 3-10 year olds. Every day this week I will be featuring plans for each day of our forthcoming Summer Camp in Gerrards Cross (10-13 August, 9am-3pm) suitable for 3-10 year olds.
Day 1 - 10th August is Pirate Day. Join us for some swashbuckling pirate adventures me hearties … we’ll be baking Shiver Me Timbers Jammy Cupcakes and decorating them with pirate treasure; making cutlass swords, treasure maps and going on a treasure hunt in the lovely grounds of the venue.
