🎵 💿 Living Archive MK Celebrates Milton Keynes Hip Hop Culture with Major New Project and 2026 Releases 💿 🎵
Living Archive is set to shine a powerful spotlight on Milton Keynes’s rich and often underrepresented Hip Hop scene through a major new Arts Council-funded project. Working in partnership with The Open University’s OpenLearn, MÓTUS Dance, Milton Keynes City Council and a range of local creatives, the project explores the past, present and future of Hip Hop in the city.
This ambitious initiative brings together the voices, movement and creativity of the people who have shaped Milton Keynes Hip Hop culture over the last four decades. Through music, dance, storytelling and visual art, Living Archive MK aims to celebrate a vibrant community and preserve its legacy for future generations.
As part of the project, a series of exciting new creative outputs will be released throughout 2026.
In May 2026, Living Archive MK will launch a limited edition vinyl compilation album titled Under The Grid. The album features a carefully curated selection of Milton Keynes Hip Hop tracks spanning nearly forty years, all fully remastered to highlight the depth and diversity of the local scene. Retailing at £18, the vinyl will be available at a special price of £15 at selected project events.
Alongside the album, a brand new graphic zine titled Under the Grid: MK Hip Hop Culture will also be released. The publication features contributions from a wide range of Milton Keynes Hip Hop creatives, sharing personal stories, insights and experiences that capture the essence of the culture in their own words.
Later in the year, the project will expand further with the launch of a dedicated MK Hip Hop exhibition, set to be showcased at two venues across the city. Audiences can also look forward to a brand-new documentary film, offering an in-depth look at Milton Keynes Hip Hop through music, dance and street art.
A series of live events will bring the project to life within the community. Block Parties will take place in Coffee Hall and Netherfield, creating opportunities for local people to come together and celebrate Hip Hop culture in the areas where it continues to thrive.
The MK Hip Hop Festival will be held at Middleton Hall, offering a family-friendly celebration curated by Break to the Beat, SLQY and the Payback Season Breaking crew. The festival will feature performances from local artists and musicians, as well as contributions from schools and community groups. Visitors can also enjoy a drop-in graffiti workshop designed for families, alongside Hip Hop & Rhyme sessions delivered by Hip Hop Tots.
This project represents a major moment for Milton Keynes, recognising the creativity, influence and cultural importance of its Hip Hop community while inspiring the next generation of artists.
