Friends in North East Leeds. If you have any old bras in any condition you can take them to Fit to Bust in Chapel Allerton. I went in to buy new ones yesterday and the one I had been wearing went straight in the box!

Today, we remember her life, her legacy and her extraordinary contribution to the women’s movement with one of our favourite quotes:

Ever wondered about the adverts in our WI publications??
Ladies I saw an advert over 2 years ago for volunteer school reading.

I decided to enquire and after filling in a form and having a chat, I was paired with my local primary school.

So fast forward 2 years and I was asked to be part of a podcast for retired people doing volunteer roles - about my role as a volunteer school reader

It was an amazing day sharing my love of reading as a volunteer school reader.
A simple joy of taking the time to listen to the children read to me.
For them to explore new worlds, discover new things and get inspiration from the page of a book.

I’m not a teacher but I enjoy reading and I hoped I could inspire the children to be passionate about reading.

Helping them each week in the hope it creates life long habits and that it would instil a lasting love of reading that would carry them through their lives.

I think I’ve done that and I’m super proud to be at Russell Hall Primary.

The smiles and excitement when the children see me is overwhelming and it makes me smile if I see them around the supermarket and they proudly tell their parent ‘I love to read with Miss Karen’ ❤️❤️

One little boy in particular made me so emotional and proud.

Hi everyone,
Todmorden WI have just been successful in getting a Grassroots Grant! This maybe something other WIs might want to look into. Grant applications are open until the end of September for this year. Will open again in 2027.

Isn’t this great? Our campaign SOS for honeybees is still a live campaign.

Since 2009 we have been campaigning to raise awareness of the plight of bees and how we can take action to decelerate the UK honeybee population.

Tom is hoping to bring the bee population up to a healthy level again by installing hives on office rooftops, airports, power stations and city canals in Leeds.

He's also teaching office workers how to become beekeepers themselves and any honey that is gathered from the hives is gifted to them.
