Reception enjoyed making and racing their boats today to help the Gingerbread Man cross the river safely!

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is ‘Read to the Beat”.
Musinc is partnering with Acklam Community Hub and Library to give children the chance to play a range of instruments and put stories to music.

Spending time outdoors can play an important role in children’s wellbeing, learning, confidence and development.
However, busy routines, safety concerns and limited access to outdoor space can make it harder for families, schools and carers to prioritise time in nature.
This latest guide shares simple, practical ideas to help children reconnect with the natural world, including:
• Noticing wildlife during everyday routines
• Taking familiar activities outside
• Creating mini adventures
• Growing plants or building nature at home
• Using technology to identify birdsong, insects and wildlife
• Supporting older children with independence and sensible risk-taking
With realistic ideas for all ages, the guide helps make outdoor time feel accessible, enjoyable and worthwhile.

📖🌞Middlesbrough Summer Reading Mini Challenge 2026: Read to the Beat! 🌞📖

Enjoy reading 6 library books with your child over the summer, for each book collect a stamp in a special booklet - with a special gold sticker and certificate awarded when completed!

The challenge is totally free and all you need to do is pop in to one of the Middlesbrough Community Hubs and Libraries to join.

Summer Reading Challenge is presented by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with libraries.

Theatre Hullabaloo are opening the fantastic FREE Deep Sea Adventures creative playscape starting on Tuesday 14th July 2026!
Creative Play offers a multi-sensory play experience for children and their grown ups.
