🍞 This week’s recipe: Malt Loaf! 🍇

This week, our young chefs are getting stuck into a delicious malt loaf, packed with lovely, chewy sultanas!

🦸‍♀️ Our superhero ingredient is sultanas! They’re naturally sweet, a source of fibre and contain important nutrients such as iron and potassium.

But it’s not just about the finished loaf! Along the way, children will be practising their measuring and mixing skills, while watching how the ingredients change in consistency as they come together.

A little cooking, a little science and lots of hands-on learning!

Teachers notice more than just the finished recipe. 👩‍🏫

They see the child who stayed focused for a little longer.

The child who helped someone else.

The child who usually hangs back but suddenly wanted to get involved.

Those moments might not appear on a worksheet, but they’re still important learning.

Share this with a teacher who celebrates the little wins. ❤️

A new school year can bring big feelings. 🎒

New classrooms. New teachers. New routines. Maybe even new friends.

For some children, that can feel exciting. For others, it can feel overwhelming.

Having activities where children can relax, connect with others and feel successful can make a real difference to how they settle and find their confidence.

Hit the like button if you have a little one about to head back to school, that loves cooking too 💛

Sometimes, the best way to learn is to get a little messy. 😄

Cooking gives children permission to explore, experiment and use their senses.

What does the mixture feel like? What happens when we add this? Does it smell different now?

These simple experiences encourage children to be curious and ask questions—and that’s where some of the best learning begins.

This week, our little chefs are baking a delicious ginger cake 🫚 — warming, comforting and full of flavour!

⭐️ Our superhero ingredient is ginger! Ginger is a wonderfully versatile ingredient that has been used for centuries and adds a delicious warming flavour to both sweet and savoury dishes.

As well as making something tasty, children will be building their measuring, mixing and baking skills, while learning how ingredients work together to create the final cake.

Who doesn’t love the smell of ginger cake baking?

What if cooking could help children find their voice? 🗣️

From explaining what they’re making to chatting with friends and asking for help, cooking naturally creates opportunities for children to communicate.

For some children, that might mean confidently sharing an idea. For others, it could simply be speaking up a little more than they did yesterday.

It’s amazing what can happen when children are given a reason to talk, create and work together.

A recipe has a beginning, a middle and an end… just like a little learning journey. 👩‍🍳

Children have to listen, remember what comes next and follow each step to create their finished dish.

It might seem simple, but these little routines help children develop concentration, patience and the ability to follow instructions.

And the best bit?

They get to see their hard work come together at the end.

Hit follow if you love finding the learning in everyday moments. 💛

There’s something special about creating something together. ❤️

A child passing an ingredient to a friend.

Someone helping to stir.

A group celebrating when their recipe is finished.

Cooking creates natural opportunities for children to cooperate and learn that sometimes, the best results come from working together.
