🇵🇱 14th August - Feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe 🇵🇱

We all know the story of this great Saint. We know how he came to meet his fate - in circumstances absolutely inconceivable to most of us today. Yet it was because of who he WAS that he was able to become the Saint we now know him to BE.

A Franciscan friar and priest, Maximilian had a profound and unwavering love for Our Blessed Lady. He entrusted himself completely to her, believing that through Mary we are drawn ever closer to her Son. A lifetime of prayer, devotion and putting his faith into action formed the man who, when confronted with an unimaginable choice, was able to offer his own life in place of another.

His martyrdom at Auschwitz was extraordinary, but it did not come from nowhere. It was the culmination of a life spent repeatedly choosing Christ, in the great things and in the small.

Each day on Universalis there is a very handy little ‘About Today’ section. Today, it speaks beautifully to what it really means to be Catholic and what each of us is invited to do with our lives. Perhaps that is the thought we should carry with us on this wonderful feast:

‘We can all become people for whom doing the right thing is obvious, natural, and easy. It requires no heroism, no special gifts: just perseverance, and prayer.’

We may never be asked to make the sacrifice that St. Maximilian made, but we are asked, every day, to make the smaller choices which form us into people capable of loving Christ and one another more completely.

St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us🙏.
