🌿 Wild Wrendale Rewilding Tour

Hannah has kindly agreed to offer us two additional dates next spring for a fascinating visit to Wild Wrendale! Hannah and her husband Jack are Rewilding their arable farm. Hannah is an artist Wrendale Designs by Hannah Dale, zoologist, author and conservationist

📅 Dates and times

* Saturday 15 May | 9:30am–1:00pm
* Sunday 16 May | 9:30am–1:00pm

💷 £39 per person

There are just 15 spaces available on each date, so places are extremely limited. We’ve already built up a waiting list from enquiries following our last visit, and those on the list have been given a few days’ head start to book before we open the remaining spaces.

🌱 What to expect

☕ A warm welcome with drinks and cake on arrival.

🎤 A presentation with Hannah, lasting around 30–45 minutes, sharing the story of the farm and its incredible rewilding journey.

🥾 A 2–2½ hour guided walk around the farm, including a visit to the beaver enclosure.

📚 Meet the author: There will also be an opportunity to buy Hannah’s book and have it signed.

We’re hoping the farm will be absolutely bursting with life next May – a wonderful time of year to visit!

The farm continues to mature and develop, with 113 bird species recorded, including around 55 breeding species across approximately 600 nests. There are also around 24 species of dragonfly and 24 species of butterfly. It’s fantastic to see the wildlife thriving!

A little note about the walk: This is a wilded farm, so please be prepared for uneven ground, fields and woodland. Suitable footwear and clothing for the conditions are essential.

🌿 MEET ME! 🐦

We’ve had so many new followers recently that I thought it was about time I introduced myself and told you a little more about me and Nature Lincolnshire

I’m Richard Fish, born and bred in Lincoln, and passionate about three things: Lincolnshire, nature, and showcasing the incredible wildlife we have here in Britain, particularly in our own beautiful county.

So, what is Nature Lincolnshire all about? 🌳

Nature Lincolnshire evolved around two and a half years ago as a natural extension of my other outdoor walking business. As we became more and more involved in nature events, talks, trips, holidays and workshops, it made sense to give this growing passion its own home.

Our ethos has always been “More Than Just a Walk.” For us, it’s about being present, connecting with the landscape, taking time to observe, asking questions and learning something along the way. It’s about experiencing nature, not just walking through it!

A little about my experience… 🥾

I’m a qualified Mountain Leader with over 20 years’ experience leading walks. I’m fully insured and an outdoor first aider, so you can feel reassured that you’re in safe, experienced hands when you join us.

And what do I actually do? 😂

Well, my official role is Director, but in reality, I’m the manager, bird guide, walk leader, social media guru, accountant, marketing department… you get the idea!

But it’s not just me behind the scenes. Kristie makes all the cakes 🍰 and provides endless support, and we also work with a fantastic range of trusted specialists who help deliver our guided days and events.

Still reading? Well done! Here are a few more random facts about me… 😄

👨‍👧‍👦 I have four children.

💚 My favourite colour is forest green.

🏔️ My favourite mountain is Tryfan.

🐦 My favourite bird is… well, that’s a tricky one! A puffin, a raven, a gannet, or perhaps a barn owl? The list changes regularly!

Alongside Nature Lincolnshire, I also run Richard Fish Outdoor Adventures , which focuses more on hill walking, map reading, challenge hikes and charity events. If that’s more your thing, give that page a follow too!

Thanks to everyone who’s joined us on this journey so far, and a big welcome to all our new followers. I’m looking forward to getting out into the Lincolnshire countryside with you, discovering wildlife, sharing knowledge and, of course, enjoying the occasional cake!

Saturday Species Spotlight: Bearded Reedlings! 🐦

The bearded reedling (Panurus biarmicus)—also commonly known as the bearded tit—is a small, long-tailed wetland bird. Despite its name, it isn’t actually a true tit and belongs to its own unique family, Panuridae.

Bearded reedlings are largely monogamous. Males have a beautiful cinnamon-brown body, soft grey head, long brown tail, bright yellow bill and eyes, and a distinctive black moustachial stripe. Females have a softer, sandy-brown colouring and lack the black moustache.

At this time of year, you may spot them on the paths as they search for grit to help digest their food. In spring and summer, they feed mainly on insects, flies, caterpillars and spiders. As autumn and winter arrive, they switch to a diet of reed seeds.

Because reed seeds are tough and fibrous, bearded reedlings swallow tiny pieces of grit, which help grind up the seeds in their gizzards. So, if you see them picking around on the paths, they may well be gathering grit for their winter diet!

Thankfully, bearded reedlings are doing well thanks to continued reedbed conservation, which provides the habitat they need to thrive.

Sherwood Forest Birding Walk

29th May 2027 | 10am–4pm

Join me for a relaxed birding walk through the ancient woodland and medieval heathland of Sherwood Forest.

We’ll be looking for a great variety of woodland birds, including Nuthatch, Redstart, Treecreeper, Jay and woodpeckers, as well as heathland specialists such as Tree Pipit, Stonechat, Linnet, Redpoll, Siskin and Woodlark.

There should also be some migrants around, including Willow Warbler and Cuckoo. Last year’s walk produced a few unexpected highlights too, including Yellow Wagtail and Raven! And, of course, this is Goshawk territory, so you never quite know what might appear overhead.
