I’ve built something I genuinely believe schools need.
CARM Inclusion Cycles is a structured, half-termly inclusion review tool designed to improve outcomes for pupils with SEND — not just talk about inclusion.
Built by a SENCO and senior leader (me) for those leading inclusion in real schools.
It supports SLT and SENCOs to:
• Identify priority inclusion gaps
• Take focused, accountable action
• Strengthen quality-first teaching
• Reduce exclusion disparities
• Evidence measurable impact
It’s not a compliance checklist.
It’s about leadership, ownership and sustained inclusive change.
Currently in free trial while I refine it with real school feedback.
If you’re serious about improving SEND outcomes, I’d be happy to share it.

Brilliant CPD by Adam Sproston, Senior His Majesty’s Inspector, SEND, AP and inclusion at Ofsted. Very informative - and, more importantly, excellent insight into the new inspection framework.

This allows me to a) advocate for young people in a much clearer manner, b) work alongside schools with an up-to-date operational approach, and c) mediate, understanding the pressures schools are under. As a SENDCo, Inclusion Lead and Senior Leader, I always try to understand both sides of a coin.

SEND parents – can I say this out loud?
If you’re exhausted from fighting for support…
If EHCPs and meetings feel overwhelming…
If you know your child needs more but don’t know how to push back —
You are not failing. The system is hard.
I run a family-led SEND advocacy service, supporting parents to:
✔ understand EHCPs
✔ prepare for meetings & reviews
✔ challenge decisions
✔ feel confident advocating for their child
No judgement. No pressure. Just support from someone who understands.

Does this situation resonate with you?

Have you been told what must happen, without your child’s individual needs truly being understood?

Many parents feel pressured by rigid interpretations of the law while trying to do what’s right for their child.

In reality, education should be suitable, inclusive, and responsive—not one-size-fits-all.

You’re not alone, and informed advocacy can make all the difference.

On Parent Mental Health Day, it’s worth pausing to recognise that many parents we support are holding complex families together.

Rather than asking “Why are you struggling?”, a more helpful question is “What support would make a difference - and how can we offer it alongside you?”

Our expertise is in supporting families and practitioners to:

explore what we can do, not always focusing on what is out of our control

respond to young person and parental distress with care, safety, and compassion

build and strengthen the relationships between home and the education system as a vital protective factor

shift away from judgement and towards curiosity, regulation, and repair

Days like today remind us that parent mental health isn’t secondary. It is fundamental to children’s wellbeing and long-term outcomes.

Everyone agrees SEND and inclusion matter.
That’s not the issue. The issue is how schools are expected to deliver it all right now.

With the White Paper on the way, it’s completely normal to feel:
overwhelmed
stretched beyond capacity
unsure what’s coming next
worried you’re failing children when actually the system is wobbling

Spoiler: it’s not a personal failing.

Support structures have shifted, expectations have grown, and the ground keeps moving. That’s why CARM Education exists.

Not to judge.
Not to add another initiative.
Not to tell anyone to “just be more strategic”.
But to offer practical, affordable SEND training from specialists with real classroom experience.

We deliver live training for:
💙 teachers
💙 SENDCOs
💙 support staff
💙 parents
💙 SLT

Built for the reality you’re working in — not an ideal world that no longer exists.
You’re not the problem. Support is here.

After years as a SENDCo and senior leader, I’ve been reflecting on how isolating inclusion leadership can feel especially when you’re holding risk, accountability, and values all at once.

I’m now working in and beyond schools and would love to hear: what’s currently feeling hardest about SEND or inclusion where you are?

I’m really looking forward to attending the Whole School SEND Conference on 6th Feb and spending the day immersed in meaningful conversations around SEND and inclusion.

As someone navigating a career transition into this space, opportunities like this feel incredibly valuable, not just for learning, but for connecting with others who are equally committed to inclusive practice. I’d love to engage with fellow attendees, so please do say hello if you’re going to be there.

I’m particularly looking forward to hearing from the facilitators, including:
• Inclusion by Design – WSS
• Erica Wolstenholme
• Adam Sproston on Ofsted’s new Toolkit and Inclusion

Looking forward to learning, reflecting, and connecting throughout the day.
