I just had to share some WOW work and a child's review.

So let me set the scene..... who likes Algebra?

Yes the numbers and letters together that confuse us and how often have we used them in our every day life since we finished our GCSE's???????

Did you know Algebra is in the UK maths curriculum from year 6?

So this week, I have been working with one of my year 7's on algebra, I knew if it had lots of letters and numbers in an expression she would be instantly turned off. So I eased her in with some Algebra based word problems.

She loved the fact that by using different coloured highlighters and pens that the information she needed would stand out to her and therefore she could easily solve the problems.

At the end of the sessions she told me ALGEBRA is FUN, yes you heard that right ALGEBRA IS FUN!! Her mum followed up with a message the next day, to say that her daughter had mentioned before school that she had really enjoyed the Algebra lesson with Faiza!

Did you know if you have Dyslexia it affects the way you learn and understand Maths?

🧩 ABC Jigsaw Fun! 🧩

One of the resources I’ll be using in my Dyslexia Screening sessions is this bright and engaging ABC jigsaw. It’s a fantastic way to explore letter recognition, sounds, and sequencing in a playful, stress-free way.

Activities like this help me get a better understanding of a child’s strengths and challenges, while keeping learning light and enjoyable 💡💙.

👩‍🏫 As I continue my journey to become a qualified Dyslexia Specialist, I’ll be sharing more of the tools, tips, and activities that support early literacy and build confidence in young learners.

✨ Hows everyone’s day going?

I can’t believe we’re already in the last 2 weeks before the new school year begins! 📚✏️ Time really does fly.

Today I’ve been updating my list of learners and their new year groups. It feels so special to watch them grow each year 💙. Funny enough, I realised I don’t have any Year 1’s on my list at the moment, which is a first for me!

👩‍🏫 I love this time of year, the mix of excitement, a few nerves, and fresh starts. It always feels like a new chapter waiting to be written.

💬 I’d love to know… what year group will your child be starting in this September?

Supporting kids with Send is expensive. But the cost of not doing so is far greater | Carrie Grant 17/08/2025

Hi everyone,

True words from an amazing advocate of SEND,Carrie Grant( her article is below)

As Carrie says by not empowering teachers and parents to support our SEND children in the correct way we are FAILING our learners. We are only creating further challenges for them. The stats for school avoidance, mental health and other stats she includes are heart breaking.

As a Teacher 👩‍🏫 and now Dyslexia specialist, I will always do everything to empower my learners and parents to get the support they deserve.

If you have any worries about your child and fancy a chat🗣 just pop me a message. I know for some parents they feel like they are going around in circles with the education system.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share something I’ve been working on behind the scenes I don’t post much on Facebook, but this feels worth sharing!

As many of you know, I’m incredibly passionate about teaching and empowering the learners I work with. I qualified as a teacher back in 2011 (I can’t believe that was 14 years ago!) and started off in Early Years and KS1. Over the years, I’ve expanded to tutoring KS2 and even a couple of KS3 students, thanks to the confidence I gained supporting my niece (who’s now heading into Year 10 where did the time go?!).

I always try to make my lessons engaging and fun, often tailoring them to my students’ interests. Let’s just say, I now know a lot about Manchester United players, Taylor Swift, and Billie Eilish! (Yes, you really can link English and maths to football and pop stars.)

A few months ago, I discovered The Dyslexia Academy, and after a chat with its lovely founder, Katie, I decided to enrol. The course is expanding my knowledge and leading me to become a qualified Dyslexia Screener, something I’m incredibly excited about.

🧠 Why Dyslexia Screening?

It can be carried out from age 5 (before full assessments are possible at age 7), making it powerful for early intervention.

It helps identify a learner’s strengths and challenges.

It provides clear, practical recommendations for home and school support.

I’ll still continue teaching and tutoring after school, but I hope to work with more families and schools during the day I already have a few in mind from my supply teaching days!

📹 I’ll also be sharing a short video soon explaining how screening works and why it matters so keep an eye on this page.

💬 And here’s an exciting opportunity — as part of my qualification, I need to carry out a screening for a child aged
5–16. This includes a detailed report with recommendations, which you’re welcome to share with schools or other professionals.

👉 I’m offering one FREE dyslexia screening report as part of my training. If you think your child (or someone you know) could benefit, please message me directly or comment below. And feel free to share this post with anyone it may help.

Thank you for all your support 💙
