Recently at Tiddlywinks Nursery Bury, the children enjoyed a fantastic trip into Bury to take part in the “My Pet Pals” workshop at Pets at Home. The walk there was just as exciting as the workshop itself! Along the way, the children recognised familiar shops, talked about what they could see, and warmly greeted members of the local community, including saying hello to some elderly people we met. We also had great fun walking through the tunnels, where everyone loved shouting “ECHO!” and listening to their voices bounce back.
When we arrived, Noah led a brilliant workshop, teaching us all about hamsters, rats, and guinea pigs. The children listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions, and learned lots of interesting facts about how to care for these small animals.
A real highlight of the visit was getting to hold the guinea pigs. The children were gentle, caring, and respectful, and it was clear that everyone fell in love with these adorable animals! We also had a funny moment when one cheeky guinea pig decided to wee on Ciara, which had everyone laughing!
To finish our visit, each child had the opportunity to feed the fish, before exploring some of the other animals in the store, including crickets and grasshoppers. It was a wonderful hands-on experience that encouraged curiosity, confidence, and kindness towards animals while supporting the children’s understanding of how to care for living things.
We are incredibly proud of how well the children behaved throughout the trip. They represented our nursery beautifully, demonstrated excellent listening skills, and showed kindness and respect to one another, members of the public, and the animals we met.
