🌿 Hay Fever in Children 🌿

Did you know 10-15% of children in the UK experience hay fever? (Allergy UK)

Symptoms like itchy eyes, sneezing and a runny nose 🤧 can really affect sleep, school and everyday life - and are often mistaken for a cold or virus.

💡 If symptoms: • Last more than a couple of weeks
• Happen between March–September
• Improve in winter
👉 It’s likely to be allergies rather than illness.

💛 Top tips to reduce pollen exposure:

✔️ Keep windows closed at night
🕶️ Use wraparound sunglasses
👃 Apply a little Vaseline around the nostrils
🧼 Wash hands, face & hair after being outside
👕 Change clothes after outdoor play
🚗 Keep car windows closed
🌾 Avoid grassy fields where possible
🏡 Use air filters at home

🌅 Be aware symptoms are often worse early morning & evening
💊 There are treatments available, but always check they’re suitable for children or ask your pharmacist if you’re unsure.

Today is National Tea Day and the perfect excuse to grab a hot cuppa, as if we needed one. But did you know that 30 babies and toddlers go to hospital every day with a hot drink burn?

Hot drinks can easily be knocked over or grabbed by little fingers, and a cup of tea takes 15 minutes to cool down to a temperature that will not scald a young child.

So please be mindful of where you place hot drinks. Children can often reach further than we think.

For more information on preventing burns and what to do if an accident occurs visit: https://capt.org.uk/burns-scalds/

Bowel Cancer Awareness

💛 Please share this with 5 loved ones 💛

In honour of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, we’re asking you to share this post to help raise awareness of the symptoms.

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, so it’s important we all know what to look out for.

⚠️ Symptoms can include:
• Changes in your poo (diarrhoea, constipation or softer poo)
• Needing to poo more or less often than usual
• Blood in your poo (red or black)
• Bleeding from your bottom
• Feeling like you still need to poo after going
• Tummy pain or bloating
• A lump in your tummy
• Unexplained weight loss
• Feeling very tired for no reason

💬 If you’ve had any of these symptoms for 3 weeks or more, please see your GP.

These symptoms don’t always mean cancer - but it’s important to get checked 💛

💛 C-Section Births 💛

Around 1 in 4 births in the UK are by caesarean - some planned, some happening quickly if circumstances change.

Most C-sections are carried out using a spinal or epidural 💉

You’ll be awake but won’t feel pain. A screen is used, but your team will keep you informed throughout.

You may feel some pressure or tugging, and the procedure usually takes around 40–50 minutes.

👩‍⚕️ Who might be in the room?
• Your birth partner (unless under general anaesthetic)
• A midwife
• Obstetrician / registrar
• Anaesthetist
• Anaesthetic nurse
• Scrub nurse
• Theatre nurse
• Paediatrician
• (Sometimes) a medical student — with your permission

It can feel overwhelming when the room fills up, especially in an emergency 💛

But every single person is there for one reason - to keep you and your baby safe.

🤱 If your baby is well, you’ll usually be able to have skin-to-skin cuddles straight away.

💬 Speak to your midwife if you’d like to know more, and check NHS guidance for recovery and risks.
