點解「中秋節」叫做「中秋」？🌕🥮
傳統農曆入面，七月、八月、九月屬於秋季，而八月十五正正喺秋季中間，所以叫做「中秋」。

「中」＝中間
「秋」＝秋季

每個中文字都連繫住生活同文化。知道「中秋」呢個名點樣嚟，可以幫孩子理解同記住呢兩個字。🦁✨

Why is the Mid-Autumn Festival called 中秋節? 🌕🥮
In the traditional lunar calendar, the seventh, eighth and ninth months make up autumn. The fifteenth day of the eighth month falls in the middle of the season. That is how the festival got its name:

「中」means “middle”
「秋」means “autumn”

Chinese characters are closely connected to everyday life and culture. Learning where the name 中秋 comes from can help children understand and remember these two characters. 🦁✨

This Saturday, we’ll be holding our monthly Little Lions Rising members’ gathering. We’ll enjoy a Mid-Autumn story, simple activities and some festive fun together. Siblings are very welcome too!

而返唔到全職嘅人。

我自己都試過做全職媽媽。
我有好多FTM friend都好叻、好有實力，
但大家去到一個位，
都要喺事業同小朋友成長之間取捨。

嗰種感覺，我明。

我哋而家仲好細。
呢個心願，一直都放喺我個心度。

LLR's been bringing on freelancers, volunteers and Chinese teachers lately. Helping with the curriculum, and teaching Chinese online.

Getting help is just the first step.

I've had this hope for a while.
That one day LLR will be big enough
to offer real, flexible,
work-from-home roles,
to people who can't get back to full-time work
because they're raising kids, or dealing with family stuff.

I was a full-time mum myself.
I've got a lot of FTM friends who are sharp and genuinely capable.
But everyone reaches a point
where they have to choose between their career and watching their kids grow up.

That feeling, I know it well.

We're still small right now.
This hope is still sitting with me.

Another week, another piece of good news. 🚀

Little Lions Rising has been selected for the
**Barclays Eagle Labs Female Founder Accelerator**.

Over the next nine weeks,
I’ll be learning and exchanging ideas with
99 other female founders from across the UK.

It feels like LLR is entering a new stage —
moving from quietly building everything ourselves,
to connecting and collaborating with other founders,
and learning something else too…
*how to ask for help.** 😂

Last week, we did exactly that.
Curriculum development takes a huge amount of time,
so we put out a call for help.
And I was genuinely touched by the response.
Several parents and friends who have supported LLR
offered to contribute their skills.
Hopefully, with more helping hands,
we can develop the curriculum faster. 💛

But today, I have another little call for help. 🙋🏻‍♀️
I’m very much the bookish type. 😂
Apart from storytelling,

are definitely not my strengths.

星期二先分享我哋加入 Campfield Exchange programme，今日亦好開心公布，LLR 獲選加入 Barclays Eagle Labs Female Founder Accelerator！🥳

隨住要做嘅事情愈來愈多，而大家都知道我哋嘅課程進度 delay 咗一段時間，所以今次真心求救：

我哋想搵幾位 Freelance 幫手，一齊加快完成課程！💪

With so much happening, and our curriculum already running behind schedule, this is a genuine cry for help!

We’re looking for a few freelance helpers to speed up our curriculum production. 💪

👀👂 Sharp-eyed and sharp-eared: Comfortable with Traditional Chinese, Pinyin and Jyutping, and able to spot errors or unusual pronunciation

🐢 Patient and detail-oriented: Happy to copy, paste, check, upload, wait for the website to load… and upload again 😂

We provide the content and instructions, and we’ll handle the final QA.

好多喺 Little Lions Rising 學緊嘅小朋友，
其實已經做到一件事：
見到中文字，就即刻認得出嚟。
呢一步，好多孩子做得幾好。

下一步呢？

家長可以留意嘅係：
孩子認得晒啲字，
唔代表佢哋明白呢啲字擺埋一齊嘅意思。

舉個例：
「山」同「上」，好多孩子分別都識。
但擺埋一齊，意思就變晒：

山上 —— 一個地方，喺山嘅上面
上山 —— 一個動作，往山度行

字冇變，次序一變，意思就完全唔同。

呢一步好重要——學語言唔止係記得字，
而係識喺唔同情境明白意思，先可以自己讀、自己用。

所以下次同孩子溫書，
除咗問「呢個字讀咩」，
不妨都問多句：
「呢兩個字擺埋一齊，係咩意思？」

喺我哋平台，孩子完成故事後可以喺「寶藏詞彙」溫習詞組，
眼熟但唔記得？返去「故事卷軸」對照翻譯，重新感受意思。

Many children learning with Little Lions Rising
have already got this down:
they see a Chinese character,
and they recognise it instantly.
That step, most of them handle well.

What's next?

Here's something worth watching for:
recognising every character
doesn't mean a child understands
what those characters mean together.

Take an example:
山 (mountain) and 上 (up) —
most children know both individually.
But combine them, and the meaning shifts:

山上 — a place, "on the mountain"
上山 — an action, "going up the mountain"

Same characters, reversed order,
completely different meaning.

This step matters — language learning isn't just memorising characters,
it's understanding meaning across contexts, so a child can read and use it independently.

So next time you're reviewing together,
alongside "what does this say,"
try also asking:
"what does it mean when these two are put together?"

On our platform, children revisit key words in "Treasure Words" after each story —
familiar but unclear? Back to the "Story Scroll" to check the translation and reconnect the meaning.

你有冇發現，
開學頭幾日，
個仔／女好似「唔記得晒」
暑假前識嘅嘢？
唔止你有呢個感覺。
原來有研究一路都追蹤緊呢個現象：
開學嗰陣嘅測驗分數，
普遍比放暑假前低——
平均少咗大概一個月嘅進度。
唔止中文，
數學、閱讀，全部科目都一樣。
諗深一層,其實好合理。
技能呢樣嘢,唔用就會生疏。
中文對我哋嚟講,更加明顯。
喺海外，孩子日常接觸中文本身就唔多，
暑假一停,學過嘅字好易慢慢甩晒。
但研究都話咗多一句：
唔係一定會咁。
有繼續、輕輕鬆鬆咁保持接觸嘅孩子，
可以將呢個「暑假流失」減到好低,
甚至保持進步。
分別唔喺個孩子叻唔叻，
係嗰七、八個星期,
中文有冇喺佢生活入面出現過。
呢個都係我哋暑期課程嘅出發點：

加短時間 Self-Paced Learning。
唔使追得好緊，
但足以保住已經學識嘅嘢，
開學嗰時,唔使由頭嚟過。

Ever notice how, the first few days back at school, your child seems to have forgotten everything they knew?
You're not imagining it.
Turns out there's research tracking exactly this: when children return in autumn, test scores are, on average, about a month lower than before the break.
Not just Chinese. Maths, reading, every subject.
Makes sense when you think about it. Skills fade without use.
For Chinese, this hits harder. Exposure outside Hong Kong is already limited day to day — take away even that, and characters slip quietly.
But the research says something else too: it doesn't have to happen.
Children who keep even a light, steady rhythm going can hold the line — sometimes even keep progressing.
The difference isn't the child. It's whether Chinese stayed present during those seven or eight weeks.
That's the idea behind this summer's programme: one weekly live Zoom class, plus short self-paced learning.
Nothing intense. Just enough to hold onto what's already been built — so September doesn't mean starting over.

如果你今年暑假會返香港，
我希望小朋友帶返去嘅，
唔只係一個行李箱。
而係一雙開始睇得明中文嘅眼睛。
想像一下。
✈️ 喺機場，
佢開始留意到「抵港」、「離境」。
🚇 去到港鐵站，
原來站名有啲字自己認得。
🍜 去茶餐廳，
望住餐牌，
竟然可以估到幾樣食物。
🏪 行過便利店、文具店、玩具店，
開始認得招牌上熟悉嘅字。
📚 經過書店，
拎起一本漫畫或者故事書，
發現自己原來唔係完全睇唔明。
呢啲，先至係真正嘅閱讀——
唔係考試卷可以量度到嘅。
而係孩子開始發現：
原來中文，就喺我身邊。
香港，
本身就係最好嘅中文課室。
每一個港鐵站、路牌、餐牌、書店，
都係孩子最真實嘅閱讀教材。
所以，暑假一直都係我最期待嘅學習季節。
今年暑假，

If you're going back to Hong Kong this summer, I hope your child brings back more than just a suitcase.
I hope they bring back the confidence to notice Chinese all around them.
Imagine the journey.
✈️ At the airport, they recognise 「抵港」 (Arrivals) or 「離境」 (Departures).
🚇 On the MTR, they spot familiar station names.
🍜 At a cha chaan teng, they can work out a few dishes on the menu.
🏪 Walking past shops, they begin recognising signs they've learnt before.
📚 In a bookstore, they pick up a comic or storybook and realise, "I can actually read some of this."
That's what real reading looks like — not something a worksheet can measure. It's the moment a child discovers that Chinese exists everywhere around them.
Hong Kong is one of the best Chinese classrooms a child could ever have. Every MTR station, street sign, restaurant menu and bookstore becomes part of the learning experience.
That's why summer is my favourite season for learning.
This summer, Little Lions Rising offers two pathways:
