Want to support your child in their English Language and Literature GCSE prep?

Here’s a super-effective method to boost their writing skills! 💡

🔑 Try the PETA Method 🔑

The PETA method is a simple yet powerful way to structure responses to a variety of English Language and Literature GCSE questions.

It stands for:

✨ P – Point: Start by clearly stating your opinion in response to the question.

✨ E – Evidence: Back it up with a brief quote from the text (article/novel/poem etc.).

✨ T – Technique: Identify a language or structural technique (metaphor, adjective etc.).

✨ A – Analysis: Explain what the quote shows or suggests. How would it make the reader think or feel? What effect is the writer trying to create?

Here’s an example below, in response to a question about A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens:

Point: Dickens presents Scrooge as a selfish man who feels no sympathy towards those less fortunate than him.

Evidence: When asked to donate to the poor, Scrooge replies, “Are there no prisons? And the Union workhouses?”

Technique: Here, Dickens uses two rhetorical questions.

Analysis: This highlights Scrooge’s belief that the poor are a burden and undeserving of help. It would shock the reader and paint Scrooge as a cruel, unempathetic character.

This method helps ensure student responses are clearer, more focused and impactful.
With regular practice, the PETA method can make a huge difference in your child’s exam performance! 💪

Let’s help our kids conquer their GCSEs with confidence!
