🌍💚 Our Response to Laudato Si’ 💚🌍

We are incredibly proud to share the special video we presented to Bishop John during his visit to St John Fisher, showcasing our school’s response to Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ and our commitment to caring for our common home.

The video celebrates just some of the many ways our children are putting their faith into action – caring for creation, promoting biodiversity, growing food, reducing and repurposing waste, developing our school grounds and encouraging others to “Look after God’s World.” 🌱♻️🐝

At St John Fisher, we want our children to understand that caring for our planet is more than an environmental responsibility – it is part of our Catholic faith and our call to love and serve others.

We were very proud to share this journey with Bishop John and to show him how our children are turning the message of Laudato Si’ into love in action. 💚🙏

💚MacMillan Cake Sale 💚

We are looking forward to our annual MacMillan cake sale tomorrow (Friday 25th September) at 2:00pm in the school hall for family members.

We are asking for donations of muffins/cupcakes to be sold to the children in the morning at break time (children can bring a donation of 50p/£1).

We would also welcome larger cake donations for the afternoon event with parents, grandparents and family. Children can bring cakes in during the morning via their classrooms. We are very grateful for all donations and kindly ask that, in line with our school’s nut-free policy, all cakes and baked goods are free from nuts.

For any homemade cakes or baked goods, please provide a full list of ingredients so that those with allergies can be made aware of the contents. This is particularly important to ensure we comply with Natasha’s Law and help keep everyone safe.

🐾💙 Welcome Back Mrs Taylor & Harvey! 💙🐾

It was wonderful to welcome Mrs Taylor and Harvey, our school therapy dog, back to St John Fisher this week!

There was lots of excitement around school as the children spotted Harvey – and, of course, they were very pleased to see Mrs Taylor too! 🐶😊

Harvey plays a special role in our school. Spending time with him can help children to feel calm and relaxed, support their emotional wellbeing, build confidence and provide reassurance when they might be feeling worried or unsettled. Sometimes a quiet moment with a friendly four-legged visitor can make a big difference to a child's day. 💙

We are delighted to have Mrs Taylor and Harvey as part of our wider SJF family and look forward to seeing them regularly throughout the term.

What a beautiful way to begin our new school year together with our Start of Year Mass, reflecting on how we can all “Be Great for God.”

A huge thank you to Fr Joe for celebrating Mass with us and to Sr Deloris for joining us for this special occasion.

Our children were wonderful throughout and sang beautifully, filling our school with prayer and joy. 🎶💙

🌍💚 We’ve Achieved the Eco-Schools Green Flag! 💚🌍

We are delighted to announce that St John Fisher has achieved Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation! 🎉🌱

This fantastic award recognises the wonderful leadership shown by our children in caring for God’s creation and helping to make our school and community more environmentally friendly.

Inspired by Laudato Si’, our pupils have shown that looking after our common home is an important part of living out our faith. From promoting biodiversity and recycling and repurposing waste, to caring for our orchard, growing food and improving our school grounds, our children are learning that even small actions can make a big difference. 🌳🐝♻️

Our pupil-led environmental work has involved reviewing our school, identifying areas where we could improve and, with the support of staff, putting plans into action to create real and lasting change.

The Eco-Schools programme has been empowering young environmental leaders for more than 30 years and operates in over 100 countries. We are incredibly proud that St John Fisher is now part of this global community! 🌎

A huge well done and thank you to all of our children, Mrs Brerton and Mr Nolan, staff, families and community partners and volunteers who have supported our environmental work.

⛪✨ New Stained Glass Windows for Our Chapel ✨⛪

We are absolutely delighted with the latest addition to our chapel in our 60th anniversary year – four beautiful new stained glass windows. They look amazing and have brought even more colour, meaning and beauty to this special place of prayer within our school. 💙

The children voted for St Carlo Acutis to be included. He joins St John Fisher, our school’s patron saint; St Thomas More, who stood alongside St John Fisher in defending their faith and whose name is shared by our partner high school; and St John Bosco, who dedicated his life to the care and education of young people.

Each saint gives our children a different example of what it means to follow Jesus and live out their faith with Faith, Love, Courage and Passion.

We hope these beautiful windows will inspire generations of St John Fisher children as they spend time in our chapel praying, reflecting and learning more about the saints.

We are so pleased with how they have turned out – they really do look stunning! 🙏✨

Our Class Saints 2026-2027!

During Transition Day, the children learned about the lives of different saints and considered how their examples reflected our core values of Faith, Love, Courage and Passion. Each class then voted for the saint who would inspire and guide them throughout the year.
Our chosen Class Saints are:
• Nursery and Reception – St Francis of Assisi
• Year 1 – St Joseph
• Year 2 – St Dominic
• Year 3 – St Lucy
• Year 4 – St John Fisher
• Year 5 – St John Bosco
• Year 6 – St Maximilian Kolbe

Each saint is proudly displayed on the classroom doors as a regular source of inspiration. The children will learn more about their saint, celebrate their feast day and explore how they can follow their example today.

A Special Sporting Visitor at St John Fisher!

Today we were delighted to welcome Beth Tweddle MBE, former Olympic gymnast and World Champion, to St John Fisher for a special whole-school assembly.

Beth spoke to the children about her incredible gymnastics career, including her experiences competing at the highest level, and shared some of the determination, hard work and perseverance that helped her achieve her goals.

The children also heard about the importance of sport and physical activity, as well as opportunities to get involved in gymnastics and Ninja activities.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to hear first-hand from an Olympian and World Champion. The children listened brilliantly and really enjoyed hearing about Beth’s experiences.

A huge thank you to Beth for taking the time to visit us and inspire our children!

📚🌟 Thank You for Joining Our Phonics Workshops 🌟📚

A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for our phonics workshops this week. It was wonderful to welcome so many of you into school and see you learning alongside your children.

Parents had the opportunity to watch a phonics lesson in action and receive practical guidance on how to support reading effectively at home.Thank you to Miss Hunt our Reception teacher who has led the workshops so well.

🙏🐟 Growing in Faith Together – GIFT Team Training 🐟🙏

Today we were delighted to welcome children from St Monica’s and St Winifred’s to St John Fisher as we came together for our GIFT Team (Growing in Faith Together) training, which was led by Mr Tanti.

The children explored what it means to be part of a GIFT Team and the important role they have in helping to develop the Catholic life, mission and prayer of their schools. They also learnt about St Martin and how his life was transformed.

Together, we took part in a special Celebration of the Word, reflecting on Samuel and answering God’s call. Just like Samuel, our children are being called to listen, respond and use their gifts to serve others. 🙏

It was wonderful to see children from our different schools working together, sharing ideas and discussing their action plans for the year ahead. There was lots of enthusiasm and some fantastic ideas that we look forward to seeing put into action!

Well done to all of the children who took part today. We know you will make a real difference in your schools as you continue to Grow in Faith Together. 💙✝️🐟
