Space Zero

We’ve recently been discussing ‘Belonging’, and creating a sense of community in learning spaces. Feat.collective have certainly achieved this, with their incredible project in Sri Lanka, co-operating with the & Transsolar.

Five pavilions with the same design were grouped around a generous courtyard. Through its modulation, the exterior wall touches all structures and shapes them into a larger form that creates a protected interior. The concentration of different applications in a central open space generates a small urbanistic moment that can usually only be found in the markets in bigger cities.

With its construction and materiality, the architecture borrows from the prevalent and reliable construction of the local structures. Through the precise modulation of generic design elements, the project aimed to showcase potential approaches for the architectural appearance, the utility, and the handling of the adverse climatic conditions.

A few weeks back, our Creative Director, Dave Judge, explored designing places where students ‘belong’.

FEA Studio arranged the school's classrooms as an "educational neighbourhood", with streets and alleyways connecting individual volumes.

"The design and facility layouts have an important role in making a neighbourhood-like school landscape," FEA Studio told Dezeen.

"They define alleys and open spaces for play and where different grades of students can connect."

Designed by Light Cognitive for a retail client in Barcelona, the Oculus artificial skylight reproduces the colors, contrast and clarity of the skies above—even though it doesn’t offer a true view of the outside.

We love the idea of the concept being driven by the whimsical!

The office design is driven by the whimsical, with spaces that encourage creativity and collaboration. Brainstorming booths are seemingly suspended from the ceiling, original Ansett chairs sit in reception spaces, a faceted mirror wall creates an optical illusion, custom decal graphics identity spaces pictorially and workstations ready for employees to cook up their magic are set up like labs.
