Understanding Motor Skills, Handlers & Fidget Toys
We understand that children learn, move, and respond differently.
Supporting their development sometimes requires simple but effective tools like handlers and fidget toys.
What Are Motor Skills?
Motor skills are the movements and actions involving the muscles. They help children perform everyday activities like: ✏️ Writing
👕 Buttoning clothes
🍴 Holding utensils
🏃 Running and balancing
🧩 Picking up small objects
Motor skills are divided into: 🔹 Fine Motor Skills – small movements using fingers and hands
🔹 Gross Motor Skills – larger body movements involving arms, legs, and balance
Some children may experience delays or difficulties with these skills, which can affect learning and daily activities.
What Are Handlers & Fidget Toys?
Handlers and fidget toys are sensory tools designed to help children improve focus, coordination, calmness, and hand strength.
Examples include: 🌀 Pop-it toys
🎲 Stress balls
🧵 Sensory strings
🧠 Fidget cubes
✋ Therapy putty
🔗 Hand grip tools
Advantages of Fidget Toys & Handlers
✅ Improve concentration and attention
✅ Support fine motor development
✅ Strengthen hand muscles and coordination
✅ Reduce anxiety and restlessness
✅ Encourage sensory regulation
✅ Promote calmness during learning activities
✅ Help children stay engaged in class
For many children, these tools are not distractions — they are supportive learning aids that help them feel regulated and ready to learn.
At Bethelhill School community, we believe every child deserves the right support, patience, and environment to thrive.
Slowly and surely, we are unfolding graciously!

TUESDAY PARENTING TIP:
Before Writing Comes… Pre-Writing Skills ✍🏽
Many parents get worried when their child is not writing early enough.
But here is something important to understand:
Writing is a skill.
And before a child can write well, they must first develop pre-writing skills.
Pre-writing skills are the foundational activities that prepare a child’s hands, eyes, and brain for writing.
So instead of rushing straight into “write A-Z,” parents should pay attention to activities like:
• Scribbling
• Coloring
• Tracing lines and shapes
• Playing with playdough
• Picking small objects
• Cutting with child-safe scissors
• Building blocks
• Hand strengthening activities
These activities help improve: ✔ Fine motor skills
✔ Hand control
✔ Pencil grip
✔ Coordination
✔ Concentration
A child who struggles with pre-writing skills may find writing stressful, tiring, or frustrating later on.
So please, do not rush the process.
Learning should be developmental, not pressured.
Sometimes the goal is not “write quickly.”
The goal is “build correctly.”
At BethelhillSchool community, we believe every stage of learning matters.

Every Child Will Learn, One Step at a time
One thing we keep reminding ourselves as parents, teachers, and caregivers is this: every child can learn.
Not always at the same pace. Not always in the same way. But every child can learn.
Some children pick things up quickly, while others need a little more time, more patience, and more encouragement. And honestly, that is okay.
Learning is not a competition. It is a journey of discovery — slow, steady, and beautiful.
There are days when progress looks big and exciting, and there are days when it comes in very small steps.
A child trying again, speaking up more confidently, focusing a little longer, writing a better sentence, smiling proudly after getting something right — these moments matter so much.
At BethelhillSchool community, we believe in trusting the process. We believe growth happens when children feel safe, supported, and celebrated, even in the little things.
And we truly appreciate every partnership that is working with us graciously — the parents who keep showing up, the teachers giving their best daily, and everyone cheering these children on with love and patience. It really takes all of us together.
Because at the end of the day, it is not about size, speed, or comparison. It is about growth. It is about consistency.
It is about helping every child become the best version of themselves.
This week as always, let us keep encouraging our children. Let us keep celebrating every little win.
And most importantly, let us remember that slow progress is still progress.
One step at a time, every child will bloom
11/05/2026
Over the weekend, one of our learners made a sentence… and till this moment, the joy still fills our hearts.
But what made the moment even more special was this: Her mum was able to record it.
As she kept replaying the video to her daughter, something beautiful happened — her daughter began to repeat the words more confidently and more clearly each time.
And once again, we were reminded of a powerful truth: Repetition creates familiarity, and familiarity builds mastery.
Sometimes progress does not come loudly. Sometimes it comes in repeated words… in little attempts… in patient moments… in consistent partnership.
This is why collaboration between learning centers, schools and family matters so much. The little things we do together daily can create life-changing outcomes for a child.
At Bethelhill School community, we believe every child can unfold graciously with the right support, patience, structure, and partnership.
Slowly and surely, we are unfolding graciously.
If you are looking for support services for your child or school, let’s collaborate. Send us an email or call today, and let’s get started together.
Because when families and educators work hand in hand, progress becomes possible. We are unfolding graciously!

Therapy Is a Journey, Not a Quick Fix
As parents, one of the hardest things can be watching your child struggle and wishing there was a fast solution to make everything better immediately.
When a child begins therapy, many parents quietly hope that after a few sessions, there will be dramatic changes overnight.
But therapy does not work like magic — and that does not mean it is not working.
Therapy is a gradual, intentional, and deeply meaningful process.
Every session is a seed planted. Some seeds grow quickly, while others take time beneath the surface before they begin to bloom.
Children process emotions, behaviors, communication, learning, and regulation differently.
Progress may look small at first: a calmer response, a new word spoken, improved eye contact, better emotional expression, or even a willingness to participate.
These small wins matter deeply.
Consistency is what gives therapy its power.
Just as a child learns through repetition in school and at home, therapy also requires repetition, patience, and continuity.
Growth happens slowly but surely through regular practice, safe guidance, encouragement, and trust. Interrupting the process too early can delay the unfolding progress that is quietly taking place.
It is important for parents to understand that healing, development, and behavioral growth are not linear. Some days will feel encouraging, while others may feel difficult. There may be moments when progress seems invisible. Yet behind the scenes, your child is learning, adapting, building confidence, and developing new pathways for growth.
Therapy is not about “fixing” a child. It is about supporting a child.
It helps children discover their strengths, improve their abilities, regulate emotions, communicate better, gain independence, and navigate the world more confidently.
The goal is not perfection — the goal is progress.
Slowly but surely, unfolding graciously!
