A day dedicated to celebrating curiosity, questioning and pupils’ scientific thinking. 💭✨

Can’t take part on the day? No problem! The inclusive nature of GSSfS means you can share your science:
📍 where you want
🕒 when you want
🙌 how you want
So ASK, INVESTIGATE and SHARE the scientific questions that matter to you and your pupils. 🌍🔎

🎭 Let’s Do Drama: Bringing Learning to Life Through Science 🔬

Today we're excited to be launching a collaboration with Let's Do Drama!, an inspiring programme that uses drama and performance techniques to deepen pupils’ learning across the curriculum.

As part of this collaboration, Let's Do Drama has developed bespoke resources to support GSSfS's 'Animal Action' and 'Rock Reporters' Great Guided Enquiries.

🐞 Animal Action
Pupils take part in an engaging role play where they present an invertebrate that has won 'Best in Show' - in the style of a dog show like Crufts. Using their knowledge of classification, they create commentary that showcases the unique features of their chosen invertebrate.

🪨 Rock Reporters
Through Freeze Frame and Thought Tapping activities, pupils explore the life of Mary Anning. After watching an interview, they recreate key moments using physical still images, bringing history and science together in a powerful way.

This Sunday 17th May is Mary Anning Day - a day to celebrate the remarkable fossil hunter whose curiosity, careful observations and determination changed the way we understand Earth’s history. 🦴🌍

Mary Anning reminds us that science starts with noticing, questioning and exploring the world around us, values at the heart of GSSfS.

Through the Guided Enquiry, Rock Reporters, children become young scientists: investigating rocks, asking thoughtful questions, gathering evidence and sharing their discoveries with others. 🔎✨

By encouraging pupils to communicate their scientific ideas with confidence, we continue Mary Anning’s legacy of curiosity, discovery and scientific storytelling.

Why not inspire your young Rock Reporters this Mary Anning Day by taking part in this Guided Enquiry?

🎉 We are delighted to announce that Great Science Share for Schools (GSSfS) is the WINNER of the STEM Initiative Award at the Educate North Awards.🎉

🌟 Since its inception, the campaign has empowered hundreds of thousands of pupils aged 5–14 to ask, investigate and share scientific questions that matter to them, positioning young people as active contributors to science. Its inclusive, non-competitive model reduces barriers and widens access across all contexts. Through strong partnerships, free resources and teacher CPD, GSSfS has built a vibrant, connected science community in the UK and beyond.

🏆 We are pleased the ENA judges recognised its proven reach, impact and commitment to inclusion making it a compelling exemplar of community engagement in education and science.

🙏 The GSSfS team would like to thank teachers, educators, the campaign's funders, collaborators and all those who so passionately believe in its power. We hope you take pride in this award too!

Good luck to all the staff and pupils at Chiswick House School & St Martin's College - Malta who are hosting their own Great Science Share for School event today.

This will be the third year the school has engaged with GSSfS, encouraging pupils to ask, investigate and share scientific questions that matter to them.

Here’s what staff said about last year’s event:
“What a fantastic week of scientific discovery and curiosity at Chiswick House School! Pupils’ exciting enquiries sparked imagination, critical thinking, and a love for scientific exploration. This linked to the global Great Science Share for Schools, which is a free and inclusive campaign for teachers and pupils aged 5-14 year olds.” Ingrid Bonello, Science Learning Area Lead – Junior Years CHS.

We love working with teachers like Ingrid who are passionate about science education and committed to developing the next generation of scientists.

📢Teachers – if this sounds like something you’d be interested in doing, get in touch! [email protected]

Start your engines!

As the new Formula 1 season starts, Great Science Share for Schools inspires pupils to ask, investigate and share scientific questions through the Racetrack to Road Great Guided Enquiry.

Exploring the concepts of forces and aerodynamics whilst working scientifically. They develop skills of making predictions, recording and interpreting data whilst investigating:

➡️5-7 years: Which car is the fastest?

➡️7-11 years: How can we reduce the amount of air resistance acting on a car?

➡️11-14 years: How can we increase the downforce of a car?

Teachers benefit from:

✅structured enquiry resources which are linked to curriculum objectives
✅science that’s linked to real-world applications using Aston Martin motorsport as a stimulus
✅prompts and pupil support in the GSSfS Toolkit.
