Some Year 5 and 6 science ambassadors enjoyed a trip to St Luke's today to participate in a Science Share. They demonstrated an experiment and then were able to participate in other class's activities including making a doodling robot and getting a plastic squid to sink and float.

Oral language plays a vital role in children’s learning, literacy and social and emotional development.
Our latest guide supports parents and educators with practical, evidence-informed strategies to help children build school-ready language skills.
The guide explores:
• Building oral language through meaningful interaction
• Supporting listening and attention
• Growing children’s vocabulary
• Sharing stories and naming feelings
• Working with settings to spot and support language needs
• Using evidence-based approaches to meet individual needs
With language developing rapidly between the ages of two and six, early support can make a lasting difference to children’s confidence, communication and readiness for school.

Before the holiday, as part of our celebration of National Smile Month, Year 1 took part in an exciting science experiment to investigate how different drinks can affect our teeth.
We learned that eggshells contain calcium, just like our teeth, making them an excellent material for our investigation. First, we drew a small circle on each hard-boiled egg using a permanent marker. We then carefully brushed fluoride toothpaste inside the circle to see whether it would help protect the eggshell from damage.
Next, we placed each egg into a different liquid and left them to soak throughout the day. The liquids we tested were vinegar, fresh orange juice, milk and cola.
After observing the eggs, we compared the effects of each liquid:
• Vinegar had the greatest effect. The eggshell completely dissolved, showing how acidic substances can damage tooth enamel.
• Cola stained and darkened the shell, demonstrating how sugary and acidic drinks can affect the appearance and health of our teeth.
• Milk caused no visible changes to the shell. As milk contains calcium, it is a much healthier choice for our teeth.
• Fresh orange juice caused the shell to bubble and become weaker, showing that even natural fruit juices can be acidic and affect tooth enamel.
We also discovered that the fluoride toothpaste helped to protect parts of the eggshell that were submerged in the cola and orange juice. However, it was unable to protect the eggshell placed in vinegar, as the acid was too strong.
The children thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on investigation and learned some valuable lessons about making healthy choices to keep their teeth strong and healthy. We encourage them to continue practising good oral hygiene habits at home, including brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and choosing tooth-friendly drinks whenever possible.

This afternoon we were very lucky to have First Buses and Active Travel in School. Frank who is a bus driver and Keenan an apprentice bus engineer showed the school council, early years and years 5 and 6 a brand new, First bus and explained behaviour on public transport and the eco impact of bus travel with low pollution engines. Meanwhile, Active Travel were also here delivering assemblies to Year 5 and 6 teaching them about AntiSocial behaviour and impact on public transport to help them to know what is right and wrong when travelling on our public transport services in Greater Manchester. Kate and Victoria really engaged the children and brough them some merchandise from Travel Safe.

Pupils in Year 3 have been working very hard learning about the main components of a laptop.
They even got to look inside a real laptop and correctly identify the ROM and RAM.
They practiced their oracy skills by reading about what each component does and then practiced their fine motor skills created ‘paper’ laptop.
