On Monday, we held a Year 1’s Got Talent competition. All the acts were amazing and you could clearly see the hard work that had gone into practising for the show. The Year 1 audience were very supportive of all the children and cheered them on. Our two winners were Easton and Daniel. Well done!
Another very busy, productive day in 5.2. On Monday, we investigated bridges with cardboard and today we have constructing them with wood - measuring (at least twice), sawing, gluing and building. The children have worked co-operatively and safely with our D.T equipment.

Congratulations to our Yr.3&4 athletics team who finished in first place in the team competition at this year’s Middleton primary schools athletics championships. There were a number of fantastic performances throughout by all of the children involved. A special well done to Michael, Maja, Sunita and Dumitriu who won gold in the individual event.
A busy day in 5.2. In our maths lesson this morning, we investigated capacity, finding out how much water different containers hold - this helped us to estimate with more accuracy later. Then we investigated bridges, comparing how different designs of bridges compare structurally, discovering how much weight they could take.
For our final art lesson in year 4 class 3, we explored wire sculpture and made these lovely wire sculptures. It was tricky and hard to get the form to hold its shape but we got their using: patience, creativity, resilience, skills and hard work.
Year 5 Class 4 enjoyed creating bridges as a part of their final DT topic of the years.
Children in 2.2 have been excided to receive their Blue Peter badges they applied for by writing about their favourite books.
We are also pleased to have 6 children in our class who got 100% attendance this year! Well done everyone.
We held a celebration meeting for our brilliant Rights Respecting School Council, this afternoon attended by Mrs Hartshorne and Mr Fairhurst who praised and thanked the children for all their hard work and wished our Year 6's lots of success with representing in the future as they move onto high school. The council received certificates and a gorgeous treat slice of cake from our catering team. Thank you council you have been superb!
Year 3 went on a fieldwork walk to find different rocks as part of our volcanoes topic in Geography. We marked where we saw the rocks on a map and created a key for the different types of rocks.
These children in 4.3 are absolutely thrilled to have won a Blue Peter badge through their writing efforts in a recent competition . They will be able to use their badges in lots of attractions for free when they register them. Plus, the badges has been designed by the brilliant illustrator Quentin Blake. How amazing!
Year 3 went on a local area walk to conduct some geography fieldwork. We were identifying the types of rocks which can be found in our local area.
Our art topic in Year 4 is sculpture and 3D. Today in class 4.4, we looked at how we can use more complex techniques to shape materials. We sketched our designs first and then carved our sculptures out of soap. We demonstrated patience and resilience and were really pleased with the outcomes .
A child in 3.1 has been so inspired by our Walk for Water Aid event, they even made their own book at home explaining why we as a school held our event to support this fantastic charity. Well done Leah!
Year 4 class 3 were creating soap sculptures using simple figurative form and shapes. We sketched our ideas into our sketch books and then used carving tools and a bar of soap to translate the idea into a sculpture. Can you see the elements translated into the smooth surface of the soap? There were some very tricky skills and most of all patience and resilience and a lot of tidying up of the soap flakes. We learnt that sculpting needs an organic and adaptive mindset, if you lose a chunk of your sculpting material, your artistic idea needs to be reshaped ( literally). The children have taken their soapy, art work home to be appreciated at home.
Well done to the children who have achieved a Blue Peter Badge in 5.1
Well done to all of the children who represented school in a rugby competition at Rochdale Rugby Club on Thursday afternoon. Bowlee Park won 2 games, drew 1 and lost 1 to finish in 2nd place overall.
Year 6 class 3 have the book-making bug!
These delicious-looking instructions tell children how to make disgusting-sounding liver donuts, inspired by Fantastic Mr Fox.
The children have created their own blurbs, written instructions and Ikea-style pictorial instructions to go inside.
Staff in 2.4 are so impressed with the children's Experience Passports. Some children have spent so much time at home making diaries, photo books and art displays to showcase all the amazing activities they have been d**g. We can't wait to share them with the class!
Some of the children in Year 1 have made a birdfeeder this week in Science. They rolled the pinecone in lard, covered the pinecone in bird seeds and then tied a piece of string to it, so that they could hang it up. They then chose a tree in the playground to hang their bird feeder
Year 3 have been studying castles in DT. We first looked at the features of castles, including battlements, curtain walls and turrets. We used nets to create 3D shapes and then decided how to best arrange our shapes to form a strong and stable structure. We then had a go at designing nets electronically using design software.
Three children from class 5.3 took part in a road safety trip this week. They took a walk around the local area and learnt how to safely use the new crossing.
Class 5.2 finished their pop up books. They've taken them home, but we want to share how proud we all are of them.
