Good Afternoon Everyone,

Today marks the end of an era, the day we close the doors at Clever Clowns Day Nursery for the final time.

I would like to thank all the staff both past and present for helping us to become an amazing place for our children to grow and learn.

Thank you to all of the families who have put their trust in us over the past 15 years, we know we have made a difference to so many of you over the years.

Good luck to all of our children as they progress on their journey through school and beyond, we will miss you all.

Helping a toddler learn to talk means we need to talk... a lot! However, not all talking is created equally.

Be sure to use all 3 of these talking types:

Talk TO them
Talk WITH them
Just GIVE them the words

Are you wondering why your child seems to be picking up every bug and feeling so poorly at the moment?

The reason is the past 2 winter seasons we've either been in lockdown or there have been measures in place to decrease mixing. Now the world has gone back to normal exposure is much higher, despite our increased cleaning and vigilance illness prevails.

We are mixing more, we are visiting more places and being around more people. The weather has been colder so the heating has been turned on which is a breeding ground for germs.

The winter flu bug seems to have arrived much earlier this year as well as numerous Sickness & Diarrhea bugs, ear/throat/chest infections etc and lots of children have been so unwell.

We are stressing that… if your child has a temperature, they are feeling generally unwell and are not really eating or playing at home, then please keep them with you at home until they are feeling better & able to join in with our normal activities, that’s a minimum of 48 hours.

If the symptoms don't ease within this time then please seek medical advice as statistics this year are much higher for infectious diseases.

You will all be aware of the news surrounding a very serious illness for children….

Strep A is a highly contagious and infectious and serious disease which can have severe and devastating consequences, the symptoms are (but not exclusive to)

* sore throat,
* headache,
* fever,
* a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel.

On darker skin, the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel.

If your child has scarlet fever, keep them at home until at least 48 hours after the start of antibiotic treatment to avoid spreading the infection to others.

Scarlet fever is caused by bacteria called group A streptococci (Streptococcus) These bacteria also cause other respiratory and skin infections such as strep throat and impetigo.

In very rare occasions, the bacteria can get into the bloodstream and cause an illness called invasive Group A strep (iGAS). While still uncommon, there has been an increase in invasive Group A strep cases this year, particularly in children under 10. There were 2.3 cases per 100,000 children aged 1 to 4 compared to an average of 0.5 in the pre-pandemic seasons (2017 to 2019) and 1.1 cases per 100,000 children aged 5 to 9 compared to the pre-pandemic average of 0.3 (2017 to 2019) at the same time of the year.

We will be alert to signs and symptoms of any illnesses, we cannot stress how important it is to keep your child at home if they are not 💯% nobody wants their Christmas spoilt.

Stay Safe Everyone xx
