A Salford City College student is preparing to swap Pendleton for Louisiana after securing a football scholarship in the United States.

Oliver, 18, who played for the college's MUFC football team, has been accepted onto a football scholarship at Louisiana State University Eunice (LSUE), where he will study Architecture alongside competing for the university's football programme.

The exciting opportunity comes after a challenging period for Oliver, whose plans were put on hold following a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes.

"When I found out, I felt a range of emotions because I'd been speaking to other universities and was close to signing with another university, but after being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes it was all put on hold," said Oliver. "So when I got offered the scholarship at LSUE, I was relieved and very excited!โ€

Oliver is set to move to America next month and is looking forward to embracing life overseas.

He added: "I'm looking forward to having a totally different experience, learning about new cultures and meeting new people. However, the thing I'm most excited for is to play football and live out my dream."

Everyone at Salford City College Group wishes Oliver the very best as he begins this exciting new chapter ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

We are thrilled to announce that students from the Pendleton School of Theatre are going to perform Wildfire Road as part of the National Theatre Connections 2026 Summer Festival.

The students are really excited to be going back to perform at The Lowry.

One student cast member reflected on the experience: "Wildfire Road has been a real journey. At first it was hard working with such a big group of different people, different ages and from other courses, all bringing different things into the room, but we became an ensemble in the end. With the support from the National Theatre and our director, we learnt to trust each other, made genuine friendships, and created something that was built from all our experience and creativity through such an open and collaborative project."

Tickets will go on sale on Friday 22 May at 12:00. You can purchase tickets via the National Theatre website and through The Lowry's What's On page.
