Next week, we are starting 'What's In The Box?', which is one of the ways we teach phonics.

Each week, we concentrate on one sound, and encourage the children to bring in an object beginning with that sound each day. The more children who bring in an object, the better, as we will have more to teach!

The objects are looked after, and only come out of the box during teacher-led activities.

Next week, the sound is 'a', like you can hear at the beginning of anchor, apple, ambulance, avocado, ant, alligator...

We can't wait to see what you bring!

‘What’s In The Box?’ Next week beginning Monday 29th June the letter sounds will be r,s and t. Children are encouraged to bring in an object for the box which begins with the letter of the week, and they can bring in a different object each day they come, if they wish! It is an introduction to phonics, so if the object begins with the sound the letter makes (eg, ‘a’ for ‘apple’), rather than the name of the letter (eg, ‘A’ sounds like the start of the word ‘apricot’), that really helps!

We would just like to take a minute to appreciate our amazing parents for how wonderful they have been this week! We have been doing our absolute best to keep the nursery cool and calm during the heatwave and we have been greatly helped by donations of ice cream yesterday, and rocket lollies today for snack, 4 huge bags of ice cubes to add to our water play activities, very posh Italian orange drinks for the staff team, the loan of a large fan, and the loan of an air conditioning unit. We are so grateful!!🌈☀️🙏

At 3pm today we break up for the half term holidays. It has been a very ‘eggciting’ week here at St. Cuthbert’s. 10 chicks have hatched at nursery and we can’t wait to watch them grow over the next week 🐣
