Guest Artist Announcement ✨ – BA

We are delighted to announce a special guest performance for MDS26 by BA Dance students from the University of Salford.

“Wild Shadows” Reimagined is a new work created for Salford BA Dance students, drawing inspiration from Emergence and Joss Arnott’s 2021 repertoire. Physically rooted in Arnott’s signature athletic contemporary style, the piece is driven by an original score by composer James Keane.
The work explores a battle for space and the dynamic tension between individuals and the collective, revealing how shared energy can shift power, carve pathways, and transform the environment the dancers inhabit.

Guest Artist Announcement MDS26 – Yu Chinen ✨

We are delighted to introduce our first guest artist, Yu, a mezzo-soprano from Okinawa, Japan. Yu is currently studying classical-based contemporary music at the Royal Northern College of Music and is also a member of the Hallé Choir.

🎤 Yu will present “Doves IV” from the song cycle Love Songs, composed by Ana Sokolović.

This work is part of a larger cycle in which each piece expresses the phrase “I love you” in a different language. The piece Yu will perform is in English and uniquely incorporates mouth clicks and finger snaps as essential sonic elements, blending voice and percussive gesture to create a distinctive musical texture.

They will perform “Traccia” our last work. Catch their performance at this year Matrafisc Dance Show 26 ☺️

Traccia tells the story of two souls — he, the past, and she, the present — who live the same day in different times. They are not lovers, nor bound by desire, but simply two lives unfolding in quiet parallel. He carries the weight of what has already been; she moves through what is. Between them, an invisible current flows — the trace of memory that shapes every moment of the present.
