This September I will be taking part in March the Month for Prostate Cancer UK. I will be doing at least 11,000 steps per day!
As a healthcare professional, I have cared for many gentlemen living with prostate cancer and while I was unable to do anything physically, I’m able to support by raising money to fund research to find effective treatments, preventative treatments and ultimately a cure.
It would be appreciated if you could donate or even take on this challenge yourself! 🚶🏻‍♀️
đź’ĄÂŁ100 enables the team to provide essential printed information for 1000 men facing a diagnosis of prostate cancer
đź’ĄÂŁ400 can fund for one MRI scan, allowing researchers to look inside a man and examine their prostate without the invasiveness of a biopsy.
đź’ĄÂŁ500 could cover the cost of analysing 50 men's blood samples. This could help our researchers identify their genetic risk of prostate cancer.

2/7 weeks completed!
This placement I’m based on an elderly medicine ward where I have the opportunity to see a variety of health conditions/presentations, including:
•Exacerbations of COPD
•Cardiac issues
•Sepsis
•Pneumonia
•Complications of Diabetes
•Delirium
•Palliative Care
It’s been a jolt to the system going back to a clinical area after a placement in theatres but as they say it’s just like riding a bike
I’ve got a list of the competencies I want signed off by the end of this placement, and fingers crossed, I’ll be able to manage it with the way I’m going!
I’ve been able to manage my bay with minimal supervision from my nurse which gives me a little bit of an ego boost. I haven’t managed patients independently for a few months so I was feeling the good old “imposter syndrome” but I know full well I’m more than competent to do it and touch wood, we’ve had no issues!
I’ve got a lovely group of patients who I’ve created such a positive relationship with. Had a little bit of an emotional moment with one patient which surprised me as I’m not a highly emotional person but my god, I was close to tears! I’m hoping they’re still on my ward next time I’m in on Tuesday, but at the same time I hope they’ve been able to go home.
This weekend is for relaxing and getting some of my exposures completed on my PARE.

So last week I got my feedback for my last assignment of year 2, 91% baby! 🥳🥳🥳
I’m so beyond proud of this accomplishment and ecstatic that it’s put me back on track for a first class degree, which is of course the goal!
It was a really difficult assignment and I left it until the week before submission plus threw myself a curve ball by changing one of the main elements 3 hours before submitting.
The moral of the story is: PLAN, PLAN and PLAN. I’m fortunate and lucky enough to have got this grade for a last minute piece of work but not everyone can deal with the stress of it.
So please prepare, take your time with it and give yourself enough time to proof read before you submit đź’›.

Let's talk SEPSIS. Sepsis is the NUMBER ONE cause of preventable death in the world. Sepsis can quickly lead to septic shock, multiple organ failure and in the worst cases, death.
Nurses play a key role in identifying patients with queried sepsis and are the ones who escalate to the medical team.
It is so so important to maintain a keen eye on your patients, especially those with a chest infection, urinary tract infection or a wound or have had recent surgery.
Remember your NEWS2 parameters, speak up if there is anything concerning or you are worried about your patient. It is better to get checked than to do nothing at all.
