So you think you know English? Plot twist!

LOOKSMAXXING (English slang) simply means trying to improve how attractive you look.

In a healthy way, it can mean things like: a good haircut, clothes that fit you well, some exercise, enough sleep, and feeling confident.

Online, though, it can become toxic. Some people claim your face must match certain measurements (or you’re “ugly”), suggest extreme ideas like breaking bones to change your appearance (yes, really), or say that being stereotypically attractive will automatically make you happy, loved, and successful.

The term comes from the “manosphere”, where some “incels” believe that if they were more attractive, they wouldn’t be lonely. “Chad” is used as a stereotype for very attractive men who get attention easily. 💪

There’s more to it, but this is the simple explanation!

Ever wondered what it’s called when someone carries you like this?

It’s a PIGGYBACK! 👌

Well, I can honestly say that I’ve never had to photoshop myself into a huge bin before, so… yeah. 😅 Enjoy! 😀

This is such a useful expression!

“Over the top” means too dramatic, too extreme/intense, or more than the situation needs.

It’s mostly critical, and very common in everyday English.

Examples:

👉 She wrote a 10-paragraph caption on her Instagram story explaining why she broke up with her boyfriend… it was a bit over the top.

👉 He lost his phone for five minutes and started shouting at everyone and accusing us of stealing it! Could he be more over the top?!

👉 He turned up to the date in a full suit and designer sunglasses. We were just having a coffee. It was way over the top.

The ensh*ttification of continues.

I wanted to watch a horror movie today by a Spanish director. My Spanish is not good enough to watch it without subtitles. I select the subtitles feature… none available. Just Spanish. Why?! 🤦‍♀️

“Ensh*ttification” is such a great word. It simply describes the decline in quality of digital and online services.

Reddit, Netflix, most social media… everything online starts off cool but becomes worse as the companies try to make more money. We see a decline in quality but yet we are charged more. 👍

By the way, this word “ensh*ttification” is so new that autocorrect on your phone won’t recognise it. 👀
But it’s in the dictionary now so it’s official. It’s a real word - to be used informally!

“Being ghosted” 👻— when someone disappears suddenly and you don’t know why.

It could be someone you’re talking to/dating, a potential job, a friend…

They disappear and they don’t talk to you again.

🤷‍♀️

Did you ever get ghosted?
